This Sat Nav is a Good Buy

If you are looking for a real good Sat Nav, I believe in the value for money stakes this deal is very hard to beat. I have owned a number of Road Angel devices for over ten years. I was looking for a real accurate Sat Nav which has camera updates as soon as you locate the satellites rather than monthly/quarterly or whenever. This unit was well out of my price range before Xmas @ £429.00 but now it is advertised for £299 inc delivery + a free Road Angel Compact (Ideal if you own more than one vehicle or a good buy for someone on eBay)
To make it more attractive I see that a 3 + 6 month interest free option is also available.
This is how it has been described in the Which SAT NAV Best Buy Guide

Its rather big and I dont think its as good as the tomtom. But I think the price when it first come out (£499) was rubbish. When that gets to the the £199 mark then you will see the reviews.Kind Regards

TomTom one for £99 is far beter value, smaller and you can get free speed camera updates.0

The screen is no bigger than the TomTom 520/720 series and because this is a Money saving site, the overall package combined with the Road Angel compact which, as a new unit can be sold on makes this a VG buy
The reviews and quality have been tested by Consumer which that is why it is a good buy. TomTom has such a varied specification and when it states free updates, depending on the model you choose depends on whether it's camera updates or mapping updates. Road angel make it the whole package;)"Did you hear about the frog that broke down on the motorway???? They toad him away!"0 -

Camera updates are only free for a year, the unit should last you considerably longer than that, that's why they give the special offer, it isn't a FOR LIFE offer, and of course it also depends on the Tom Tom unit you purchase as to the type of software in it that will require updating (at a cost of course) and that is why I maintain the Road Angel to be such a food deal

I know you are trying to convince people its a good deal but it isnt, £300 notes is way too much and after the first year it says its £5.99 a month for updates.
You can easily get updates for TomTom on the net for free , ok you have to download them but it only takes 2 mins, i would rather do that and have £200 in my pocket

I don't gain by this and I am not trying to convince anyone just stating the facts, and as many of the posts on here will, the Tom Tom is not what you say is cracked up to be, and TBH you have to be pretty savvy to get any free updates from Tom Tom
IMO

That and you can usually pick up these things much cheaper than the cover price. Only thing is they don't give you turn by turn directions, and reading one at the wheel isn't a great idea
I'd say a partner is cheaper but that's debatable :rotfl:0 -

Satellite navigation review
Road Angel Navigator 9000
The chunky Navigator 9000 from Road Angel has lots of useful features - including weather information - but it is let down by its poor performance in built-up areas.
This particular model specialises in hazard warnings and speed camera alerts, but these can become irritating due to their frequency, and they can’t be turned off. The alerts are timely delivering advice in good time for you to make a turning or lane change, but we found an alert often sounds when there isn’t a speed camera nearby.
Installation and set up of this model is simple, but it’s not that easy to use because the on-screen instructions are difficult to follow, and maps are tricky to update.
Audio and visual information sometimes conflict, and locating house numbers proved to be slightly inaccurate. The schematic arrow is difficult to interpret at roundabouts, where it seemed to point the wrong way. The avoidance of traffic problems is good, and suitable alternatives are suggested.
The Navigator 9000 can receive and display text messages, and you can also use it to direct you to places on foot. It can run directly off the car’s power through the cigarette lighter, and can also be charged via a USB connection to your PC. Mains charging was a little slower than average.
The supplied maps cover the UK and Ireland, and a further SD memory card can be bought for Western Europe. Traffic updates are available with subscription.
Pros: Good traffic avoidance, easy set up and installation, widescreen display
Cons: Poor on-screen prompts, distracting voice commands0 -

ultimate sat nav device , but usually makes the wrong turns when memory cache is running low on the unit :rotfl:0
