Where Do People Buy Their Non-Apple Laptops These Days?

Options
Time was when I would pop down to MicroDirect and chat to other customers and staff and try out the display models. There was even a time when PC World had a half-decent spread of reasonable machines - even the website offerings these days seems very limited in brands and specs.

So, as the title says, where do most people get their basic/home, productivity and gaming laptops from these days? Is it really ebay, Amazon & John Lewis? Or online direct from manufacturers and their authorised distributors?

Argos or Currys.  Currys seem to offer (but not deliver), Argos - pick up in 30 minutes.

    Currys is dreadful.

I've been trying to get some tech there and no one seems to know anything about it.  I had one in mind that I'd seen on their website and when I got into the store there was a display with some kit and some signs that were essentially a print of what's online.  I asked someone which of the kit showing was the one I wanted.  It wasn't there.  So I asked if they could show me one.  And I was shown a box for a different product with them saying it was the same thing - despite admitting there were different specs and a different price.  I asked again to see on and was told that they don't have any in stock but I could go to the nearby branch that had one - it was 70 miles away.

ccl computers have never let me down.
  • Yes CEX and Amazon renewed. No need to buy New. They’re like cars, let someone else take the hit.
I do this with IPhones as well. Buy a 3 year old Pro model for 60% off the new price.

How do you guarantee secondhand machines don't come with refractory kernel-resident rootkits and hardware 'tweaks'?
