eBay issue

  • I had a similar issue just last week.
Sold an item and printed doff a label via eBay, which uses the buyers eBay registered address.
Item was marked as delivered on tracking and on eBay, even with an image showing someone's legs, wearing slippers, at a front door - but the RM tracking showed minutes later 'Item not delivered'!

I put this down to an error as eBay showed delivered.

A week later the item was delivered back to me!

Received an email from the buyer on the same day [co-incidence?] saying it seems the item has been returned to me and that he had requested redelivery from RM 3 times and they had not shown up.
I asked what he wanted me to do, he said to re-send it again, but he was at a different address so could I send there.
I said it would cost him extra in postage for me to resend, and that I could only use the eBay registered address.

I didn't want to get into this any further so just offered the option of a refund - he said to refund and if I relisted it he would repurchase after changing his eBay address.

Bear in mind up until this point no case has been opened, hence I was able to refund him for just the cost of the item, and took off my initial postage.

Returned items can take a whlle to come back. Not the priority for sorting offices.
Exactly.  But I doubt it will ever come back.  In my experience they often dont.

Do you put a return/sender address label on your parcels? I always stick a small one on the back or side: i have had a couple that have been undeliverable and RM have returnd to me; one was an item I sent to Italy!
  • I am sure ebay will rule in his favour and take the money off me.  Even though the buyer has made the mistake here.

You will win the INR claim, make sure you add tracking to the dispute and also phone eBay and make sure they look at tracking . The change of address is immaterial and is only a problem for the buyer, you have full seller protection as you posted it to the address eBay gave you.

just make sure you keep on top of the dispute .
Would you win the INR if the item wasn’t actually delivered?

if item doesn’t come back to you then hopefully you have proof of posting and you can then use that to reclaim your loss from Royal Mail. A claim can be done online and is relatively easy .
In my experience, there nothing easy about getting a refund off Royal Mail for a lost package! ;)

As per my second revised response you can’t win an INR if you can’t prove delivery. You must t let it time out though if a case is already open as you lose your FVFs.

I’ve not had issues with Rm claims in recent years, what issues have you had? I just go online, complete the forms, upload the info required (mainly proof of posting) and the couple I did last year I had a cheque in the post within a week.

Thanks for the advice.  Ill refund (very reluctantly)

The last claim I made was for an item that was damaged in transit.
I filled in the form and uploaded all the documents they asked for.  In the end they didnt payout, gave me some BS excuse, I cant recall.  I just let it go.

If there’s no return address and the tracking updates to show item couldn’t be returned then you wouldn’t be able to make a claim for loss as it wouldn’t be lost, just not deliverable due to you not giving them return details. You need to keep an eye on the tracking updates as the tracking will determine whether a claim against RM is possible.
