Quickbooks desktop

Hi  our business has been switched over to Quickbooks online from Quickbooks desktop (due to Quickbooks discontinuing the desktop version).  We have tried over several days to access our old desktop data without success.  We have tried to follow links sent to us by Quickbooks and install 'trial' versions in order to access the data.  We have spoken to many 'customer service assistants' and unfortunately it appears we cannot access the old data for any longer than 1 month when  the 'trial' period ends.  How is it that an accounting software company cannot allow access to our data? If we were to get an HMRC inspection and they ask for the last 7 years of accounts I'm sure they'll laugh us into the middle of next week when we say, 'oh sorry, we don't have access to that information as we moved from QB desktop to QB online last year.'  Given it is a legal requirement for companies to keep 7 years of accounts how can an accounting software company not know that this would be a necessary requirement?  I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or if anyone else can help with a solution?  Thank you.

  • Did you not upload the old QuickBooks file (.qbb?) Into the online version?
Do you not have a QuickBooks desktop version installed on a pc somewhere, or a backup file?
The desktop version of QuickBooks isn't dead, it's just unsupported. They want you to pay a monthly subscription basically, rather than use the original licence you probably only paid £99 for years ago.

The 7 year thing is your responsibility, not Quickbooks.

The procedure for migrating is documented here:

Anyway it's documented on the website they discontinued the desktop version back in June 2023, and they normally announce things like that months in advance, so why you've left it until now...
