I am possibly moving to new build.  Should I choose an estate agent in my area or outside, both offer similar services, with internet presence.  The reason for asking is that the property I am buying has offered to sell mine.

  • It all depends on what service the people you are buying your new build from are willing to provide to get your previous property sold.

I just sold mine last October and my local estate agent was invaluable in enthusiastically showing people around my home and selling the local area etc. They also hooked us up with a fantastic local solicitor too.

If you look at reviews for people like purple bricks that offer a selling service, they have dire reviews because they aren't locally located and rubbish at acknowledging requests for house viewings etc. as said it depends what the new build people are willing to do to sell yours, they have the incentive of flogging you a new property so that make them underprice your property for a quick sale.
  • I would go with an agent who has an actual physical presence near your property.. The local office of a big national chain my be OK. Real (very) local knowledge is usually extremely important.

An exception may be when a local buyer is not likely. EG: "Country Houses" expected to sell to someone rich getting out of London.
