Time to be a grown up!

Starting a diary to keep a track of 2024.
2023 was awful in every aspect so need to get a hold of a few things.

My debt is fairly minimal with an overdraft of £930 however this costs me every month so it’s time to knock it down. Hoping to reduce it by £10 a week minimum so end goal would be 13/10/2025.

I’ve always been terrible with money and like a gamble so that’s where a lot of it goes. I did begin to save last year and did fairly well but due to factors that was completely depleted so my saving account  stood at the princely sum of £1.83 on 1st of January. Would like to have at least a pot of £2000 by the end of the year.

I’ll also be tracking my gambling and aiming for no spend days and will be ‘Tilly tidying’ as inspired by this forum… every little helps right!!

overdraft £17/£930

savings account £102.65/£2000

gambled £7.92

    Thanks lovely :)

Payday for me is Thursday so moved my remains of last weeks. I know leaving it in my account would cut the fees down on my overdraft however if it’s there it’s just to tempting so out it goes!

it’s my main week for bills next week so not expecting much to move over but we will see.
Planning a nsd tomorrow as it’s just work then home with the little one.

  • I'm WFH today too but had to drop my wee OAP car off for her MOT this morning so not going to be a NSD for me.

I'll attempt a NSD tomorrow instead cos I won't have anything left!

Hope it’s not too bad for you Dolly!

  • Need a new car - managed to find a Toyota Auris so my Mum's gonna lend me the money to buy it and I'll pay her back next year after the rest of my debt is gone.

They are expensive but so worth it!

I have a gambling problem also although now not gambled since Boxing Day 2022, I have spent £1000’s if not 10s of £1,000s over the years.

I now feel like I have it under control and don’t miss it now but my dad also quitting gambling 238 days ago has helped as we both used to bet on the football and compare.

i found I had to quit altogether and not just spend a few quid a week as I chased my losses

    Good luck 🤞

Oh that’s good that your mum can lend you it!
Hopefully it’s a decent car and runs well. I’ve got a mini sat waiting for me so one day, one day! I’ll be out in that lol.

That’s awesome work on quitting. Well done to you and your dad! I wouldn’t like to think how many thousands I’ve spent on it but I’m a lot better now and have limits on every site although I’m currently on breaks on all the ones I use. I don’t think I’ve really made the decision to stop completely but I’m finally clever enough to have the limits to stop me wasting hundreds in minutes like I have before.
I’ve quite enjoyed just having 4 99p goes on a raffle and watching the draws on Facebook for a bit of entertainment. Extremely unlikely to win but I guess I always was!

Today was another nsd which is fab for payday but do have a small list of things to buy this weekend.

Spending day yesterday as planned. Even started Christmas shopping! Just one but it’s a start.
NSD today and hopefully tomorrow. I have a poorly little boy so won’t be going out. Just a bug, he’ll be ok in a couple of days.

  • So yesterday wasn’t a NSD as planned however I did buy my sons aged 4/5 wardrobe on v*nted so I’m happy I have that sorted and will save me so much money in the long run. £38 for a bundle of 86 items, just pyjamas to buy but won’t need them for a little while yet.

NSD today so that’s 10 for the month.

I haven’t gambled for 6 days which is amazing and only twice this month. I sat last night and went through last years bank statements.
    Crikey. Wake up call!
Last January I spent £511 on slots. I only lost £46.40 however I could have lost a lot more so I need to keep that in mind when I am tempted to ‘just have 20 quid’.
