from February OVO will no longer be giving interest on credit balances

however they say you can ask for a refund of any credit on your account provided you leave one month's direct debit credit balance

it is nice to see an energy company quantifying the amount of credit balance they would like you to have

  • I wonder if that would count as a material change sufficient to leave a fixed contract early? (Speculating as my folks are fixed with OVO until July but I'm trying to convince them to join me at Octopus).

Unlikely it would count as a material change, it’s in their t&c’s that they can change the interest reward whenever they want, including withdrawing it.

Read the contractual terms both parties have signed up to. Material changes are generally well covered in English Law.
