Car Insurance - Hastings Direct - Proof of purchase mistake?

The Ombundsman is reviewing and a knowledged my complaint. I am still waiting to hear from them.

An interesting note is that when I sent the ombudsman our proof of purchase and the latest downloaded insurance documentation from Hastings Direct I decided to review it. I wanted to see where they had changed the proof of purchase date and it had not been changed. It was still the original proof of purchase date that they had charged me the £30 admin fee for and the extra premium.

The Ombundsman is taking the case forward and investigating them. It could take upto 3 months.

I am happy to report that we won our appeal with help from the Financial Ombudsman.

It was seen as a joint purchased asset as we are married. We have the original paperwork and documentation on the car, which we paid through a joint bank account using a joint bank loan.

I am receiving a refund from Hastings Direct and surprisingly compensation for what the Ombundsman deemed as "compensation for the distress and inconvenience caused."

I'm not sure if Hastings direct has changed their proof of purchase policy about this? I'm waiting to see if I get an answer.

I did tell the Ombudsman that I hope I'm not contacting them when it comes to getting insurance next year.
