Our turkey was a fresh Norfolk Black from Sainsburys (£32 for 4.5 kg) It was lovely and got some left, but if I do Xmas dinner again next year (hoping someone else will tbh) then I think I might cook something different like a lovely free range chicken.Grocery challenge July £250

I got a free range chicken from the butchers. It was large! It cost about £20, which is a lot for just DH, myself and a 3 yr old.
I won't get one again next year as although the breast was gorgeous the rest of the meat and the skin smelt a bit funny to me and tasted the same....
Last year we got the same, but bigger as we were feeding more (about £30 I think) but this years has but me off.
Next year I can only hope that DH, DS and I will be allowed another stress-free day (just us and maybe the IL's but not SIL, BIL and her three spoilt kids!) and then we may just blow some cash on lunch at a very nice restaurant a perfect 20 mins walk away.0 -
we had an Asda's self basted turkey (Cranburry Foods name on bird) and it was the best Turkey i have ever had. Meat was really moist and it had a great taste.
Hope to pick up another Thursday when they reopen - hopefully reduced:j0 -
No. Won't ever buy one again.
We had the one from Iceland that you wrap in foil and cook for 3 hours - took extra last year too but we decided to give it an extra try. It was in for 10 and by 1pm it still looked raw.0 -
our 14 pound free range turkey from farm was very nice, and cooked in 2 and a half hours on bbq.0

We had two xmas dinners again this year (one the week before xmas with dad & step mum and another on xmas day with mum and step dad).
For the first xmas dinner i bought a frozen turkey crown, 2.3 kg £6.99 from Aldi and it was lovely, loads of meat. When i went back for another one they didn't have any so...
...for my 2nd xmas dinner (on xmas day) i bought a frozen whole BM turkey, 5.4kg £8.99...it was a nightmare to defrost and it was a bit dry and had about the same meat on as the Aldi turkey crown...i was very dissapointed with it and i shall not be buying one again.
Next year i shall hunt down the Aldi frozen Turkey crowns and buy two.0
