Many thanks for all of your replies and comments
You have reassured me that I don't have to worry about the expiration warning email and my ESTA expiring on the 20th February will be fine for entering the USA
I will have my boarding tickets for the return flight on the 14th ready , so would hope this is ok for immigration control if they have any questions
Thanks againThe truth shall set you free.....................0 -
Hi. I’m in the US at the moment and my ESTA runs out shortly. All US immigration care about is whether it’s valid upon entry. If it isn’t then you won’t be allowed to board the flight and this will be flagged up on your APIS. If it is then no problem. They might ask how long you’re staying for (unlikely) but will not be interested in seeing proof of return flights. This is from quite a few visits as I come here quite a few times. And has been stated and is quite clearly in the ESTA rules, it is an entry requirement only. It has no bearing on how long you can stay.0

If you care to point where I said he needed a valid ESTA for exit, I will donate £100 to the charity of your choice.0 -
According to the first dictionary hit online that appeared - this is their definition of imprecise."lacking exactness and accuracy of expression or detail."Seems clear and unambiguous ?

Your post said be prepared to prove you are leaving the USA by the 20th, which is the same date as the OPs ESTA runs out
Seems to me that you were suggesting his ESTA expiring may cause him issues which is not the case0 -

‘In any case, he perhaps should be forearmed and have proof on his person he has booked a flight out of the country before the 20th, the immigration staff in the US are the most humourless people I have ever encountered. I would be leaving nothing to chance.’
Not that I really care but you have set yourself up on a bit of a pedestal. And yes it probably is the height of pedantry.Ultimately though the OP has had the answer they wanted.0 -
