Switch blanket on at desired setting with it plugged in and wall switch on.
Switch off wall switch or pull out plug.
Switch back on at wall or put plug back in
Check that blanket powers up again.
If it does then a plug in timer should work.
If it doesn't power up then a timer won't work.1 -

The OP said they have a Silentnight one. A normal timer will work just fine with those.
I know because I've used a TAPO P110Now i'm curious, what sort of Silentnight electric blanket do you have? All the ones I can see on their website appear to have conventional analogue "slider" controllers, which are simple multi-position switches. These should work OK with a switch on the mains supply.Do you have something different?

Regarding cost, ours measures 20W, 30W or 60W at the three settings. Assuming it's on for an hour each evening thats a maximum of around 1.5p per day.1

Can I fit a timer to this? Was gonna buy another but wanted a timer this time0 -
I nearly bought an electric blanket around Black Friday as they were sort of reduced.
The real reduction was in the size which no longer covers the whole mattress, negative reviews complained that part of the plug connector now dug in their back or they had cold feet.
So the whole "these are cheap to run at 1p blah" is because they cut the area that has the element and the element itself does not go to the edges. I call it shrinkflation!
There were ones that advetised going edge to edge and the full mattress length but they were double the price.
In the end I did not buy, I have a throw from Aldi that is pretty good, it is a fake fleece type but very effective.
2000w heater, gift it to someone on Freecycle and don't fall for those fake heaters advertised on YouTube that "heat a room in seconds".0 -
I agree on the size. You really need a King on a double bed. I also have a Double but it's too short and doesn't warm your feet. I now use it on my easy chair with a blanket on top.0

We have a super king silentnigh dual control one on our king bed and it’s still not quite long enough, there are 10 inches on top and bottom with no heating wires and I have to have it so high up the bed that it only heats 3/4 down due to the very odd placement of the fitting for the power lead, any lower and my shoulder is on it, even though the blanket hangs 2 inches over both sides of the bed.0
