Breakdown Cover - Autoaid renewal cost now includes a charge for partner cover!

We moved from the AA after about 25 years of continuous breakdown cover to Autoaid last year.
Paid £63.64 last year (less £7 Cashback) which was a good deal.
Renewal @£74 now includes an additional £10 for covering 2nd person. Is this new?

Feels like the typical ploy to draw you in…then pump it up. Worth checking & reviewing what else is out there!
Autoaid will certainly be less competitive once my car reaches 10years old, as an excess then applies.

I’ve not seen that extra charge before.
i find them amazing value as I have spouse, 5 vehicles including older.
so as always get a product or charging structure that suits you best.1 -
AutoAid is personal cover, so it's not unreasonable that if you want to cover an extra person there would be an additional charge. Whether it's new or not I don't know as I only have cover for myself. If you only have 1 vehicle then you can get cheaper cover for it for any driver through the sister company, AutoNational.

daveyjp said:That's for new customers, perhaps the partner charge is only applied to renewals, which is what the OP is doing this year.Having said that, I found this in the email they sent about my renewal, see the highlighted part."Why should you renew with us? We believe that we provide an exceptional breakdown cover, which covers you for home start, roadside assistance, recovery and more, at an affordable price. Not only that, but we also cover your spouse, civil partner or common law partner for no extra charge, so long as they are named on the policy. You may also wish to compare the prices and level of cover offered by alternative providers. AutoAid are also highly endorsed by The Money Saving Expert!"

My renewal has gone up from £63.64 to £95.54. That’s extra £10 Spouse Premium and £ 21.90 16 yr+ vehicle premium, not happy since I have only called them out once in 10 years.0

I was with Autoaid and broke down in summer 2022. None of their phone numbers picked up, not put in a queue, nothing, just went round and round saying press this, press that... just dead ends. Tried every number I could find for them. For over 3 hours. Took them about 9 months to finally accept they'd totally failed to provide a service and give me my annual premium back. Poor man dealing with complaints was totally over stretched, can't think why. Avoid at ALL costs, however cheap!0

Called them up to discuss it just now. Got a pretty blunt response, basically 'the insurance company have insisted on that new £10 spouse charge' and yes, it applies to both renewals & new customers, and pretty much take it or leave it. So I went back & checked out their website & sure enough, it's now a tenner to cover a spouse (see below). Disappointing...just another company fleecing us. Going to have a wee look at Autonational & the other MSE recommended one (Ever... something) now.
