Hi everyone

Planning to collect 2nd hand car tomorrow from car giant - hyundai ioniq ex-motability

They said there is 2 years left on the Hyundai warranty so if we want the car giant warranty it will start as soon as the hyundai warranty finishes - its 899 for 3 years  - should I get this?

I called Hyundai they said they don't extend warranty after 5 years.

Car details:

Hyundai ioniq premium 2020
mileage: 4211

  • Check what the warranty covers. So is that £899 for 3 years after the Hyundai one expires? Depending on exclusions it doesn't sound terrible.
That's a very low mileage for a 3/4 year old car though. Did it have some serious issue that kept it off the road for long periods?

Its a 'Covid car'.  Not used for months during lockdown and being motability not much afterwards.

The Cargiant warranty is an upsell.  If Hyundai confirm it has a full Hyundai service history and the warranty is still in place don't bother.

@Veteransaver - yep £899 3 years and starts when current hyunday warranty ends which is in 2 years time.

@daveyjp - CG said it has been serviced twice in that time both at hyundai, but apparently they don't print it out anymore they only tell us verbally as its all stored electronically? Are you saying I should contact hyundai themselves to confirm if the car was serviced?

My next dilemma is getting insurance lol I need to get 1 day temp to collect the car I guess and then choose the long term insurance starting about a week from today as its coming near to £900 when I put myself as no.1 and my dad as secondary! (Car will be in my name)starting tomorrow....

It should have had 3 services, not that they do much servicing on these but it may affect the Hyundai warranty. They should also stamp the service book, I'd definitely check with Hyundai and not trust car giants word unless they put something in writing.
Also bear in mind the 4th year service is quite expensive (about £400-500) as it requires a coolant change (assume this is the 38kWh full electric)
However if you get it serviced at Hyundai dealers it should extend the breakdown cover for a year.
You can call the breakdown hotline and give them the reg number and they should confirm whether breakdown cover is in force - 0800 980 2733

    Vocational freedom has arrived
  • I’ve made 3 warranty claims on my Peugeot.
First was a parking sensor 3 days before 3 year warranty ended.
Called and booked in, they scanned the car and said come back in 10 days after your holiday for work to be done.
    All went fine.
Second claim under manufacturer extended warranty was a night mare.
Washer jets were not spraying the screen, a mot failure, so called and booked mot, told them I had mot insurance and warranty.
They had my car 2 days, did nothing except give me a bent mot.
Washers still not hitting the screen.
Said was blocked jest and my fault, I said from the day I got the car I’ve only ever used screen wash and deionised water so it would not scale up the jets. Blocked jets are not a warranty claim.
Took it to my local mechanic to fit a new pump as that was my guess, Genuine Peugeot part £16, £20 fitting.
Worked with bonnet open, closed bonnet and stopped working.
My mechanic diagnosed problem in 2 minutes, a split washer pipe where it is tied to the bonnet hinge.
Took it back to Peugeot showed them and they still said blocked jets, got him to stand near the bonnet and covered him in washer fluid.
    He agreed to fix pipe.

Third fix was Adblue tank last year, No local Peugeot dealer could even look at the car for 8-10 weeks.
Found a dealer 60 miles away that could see me in 2 days, car scanned and part ordered.
No date for part to arrive.
Called warranty and said I can get the part same day, why can’t you.
    4 days later all fixed.

Warrany, good if covers what breaks, exclusion list can be huge.
    Claiming is a nightmare.

My mum had an i10 for 11 years from new, nothing went wrong.
She never checked the oil, water etc between services.

It's the hybrid model - also only comes with 1 set of keys so I need to factor that cost in  - called hyundai they said could cost anything from £300-480 directly from them.

I need to shop around I guess and check few other car key places.

I called the number and they said breakdown cover is available until 13th July 2024.

I bought a Dacia Sandero with only 5800 miles on it, it was just over 2 years old ,no problems what so ever ,just by some one who like me does not do a lot of miles ,enjoy your new car.
