Complain in no response other than acknowledgement, letter in says account review and cheque will be sent complaint now in with FOS.
So you complained on Friday 19th Jan.
You are aware that you have to give HSBC 8 weeks to deal with the complaint, unless they issue a deadlock letter before that.
FOS will not action anything yet.
Even then FOS will not resolve your complaint in days. You are looking at months.
Yep, just about long enough to financially ruin someone who may or may not have done something wrong.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

But the complaint timescale is unrelated to the severity of the punishment, i.e. even if the complaint was addressed faster by HSBC or FOS, that's not going to get the account resuscitated now that it's been closed with a cheque on the way.  Having said that, account closures resulting from routine reviews will normally be with 60 days notice or similar, so the rationale for immediate closure still isn't apparent, and OP hasn't shared the wording of the letter yet....

Banks do not simply close a account with no notice.
As above 60 days is the norm, or a letter is sent stating in the most serious cases, your account is being closed, with immediate effect. But for that a lot of investigation has been done in the background.

As ever, we only have one side of a story & even then no real information.

A guide to how hard it is. Our dept had hard proof that a customer was defrauding retailers & bank by claiming goods not received. We knew of several cases we had dealt with & they had switched in not long before (no bribe at that point).
Took several months to get to the stage where they even thought about any action. They were given 60 days notice in the end.
    Life in the slow lane

Of course they don't, but again, 'simply' is a meaningless word in this context.

Has the reason behind the account closure now been determined?

No, just an annual review, held on to money for over a month, now with FOS.
