Came looking on MSE after looking at Onestream and being absolutely astonished by their early termination fee.  I'm sure there's some rules about them having to be reasonable and reflect their true costs.  Onestream are trying to get sued. Here's the example they give in their price guide
    Example
You are a Onestream Fibre 80 customer and you end your contract 4 months before the end of your minimum term. Your monthly termination fee would be £17.00, multiplied by 4 months remaining = £68.00

You didn’t pay an activation fee when joining which means £99.00 is added as well as a charge for your Superstream router of £125.00, making your total early termination fee is £292.00

The Fibre 80 package is £20pm discounted from £37.95.  But to cancel with 4 months left is the equivalent of £73pm. What a con.

Just crossposting from here - I doubt it's enforceable.

I’m fairly sure that ETC calculation isn’t in line with what the regulator expects but they may have no authority in the mater ( but if you don’t like the T&C’s , don’t sign up , and if someone didn’t read the etc more fool them )  .
The charge wasn't in the original T&Cs (at least, it was added mid-contract for some customers)
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Signed up 2 weeks ago. 2nd hand router (CeX) £12. Cash back  as new customer. Speed as promised. Chat help was excellent. Very happy. will cancel the extras.
  • OneStream are fine tbh so long as there are no issues, the service (via FTTC in my case) is identical to the other providers I've had in the past, they are just sharks around hidden charges so you have to be careful.

    1.  When you sign up, if you are technical minded, using your own router (potentially with an additional modem from ebay depending on if you have an ADSL router already or not) is preferable.  That's because its both cheaper and they can't sting you for a non-return of router at the end of contract.  If you do have to send it back, make sure its recorded delivery that requires a signature.

    2.  After sign up, you'll have been forced to add a number or products that you don't need.  Its easy to cancel those on their LiveChat service and they don't quibble, but don't forget to do it.

    3.  Be super careful of termination fees.  I arranged a switch to a new provider which was due to complete 2 days after my contract finished.  They wanted hundreds of pounds in cancellation fees, insisting that by instructing the switch a week or so before my end date, that I had terminated the contract early, even though the final switch date was after my contract ended.  Of course as soon as you're out of contract, you'll be getting stung for full price, so make sure you trigger the switch asap once your contract finishes.

    4.  Don't cancel direct debits, as they charge to re-create them.

    5.  Be careful of ANY emails they send you with "free trials", they tried to sign people up to a free trial of NordVPN, that if you did not cancel, became chargeable.  At a higher price than you get buying Nord separately.  They absolutely rely on people not reading the terms properly.

In short, they offer a good service at a good price IF you can dodge their traps, but they are properly scummy as an operator with policies designed to price gouge.
  • Resurrecting a dead thread.... I was looking at them to reduce costs, but read a number of the 1 star reviews on Trustpilot as well as other threads.
I thought I would have a look at their terms & conditions from their website... copied out of pdf to Word and it is 8000 words.
My life and time are too short and precious to wade through all of that to save a couple of quid... I'll go elsewhere for my broadband 😉
