Morning All
Brrr, very chilly out this morning, -5 at the moment. The car will definitely need defrosting.
Busy day at work followed by a catch up with a good friend, usually 4 of us but one is quite ill in hospital and the other had a last minute doctors appointment. Food wasn't great but I was hungry so ate it anyway!
Surprisingly I did get my appointment yesterday and all is good, great to get it out of the way.
Hope your appointment went well Nanny.
Sounds like your DB had a good send off TA.
Sorry to hear your neighbour is failing Gers, he will be pleased you visited.
You have a very interesting WI Coxy.
Not sure I would try the Ostrich steaks Coxy, you're very brave.
Hope you're not too bruised Izzy.
Off to the shower now then another mad day at work awaits, the children still haven't been outside to play.
Have a good day, stay safe and warm and take care. XX10 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another Siberian day in store for us. Yesterday was absolute mayhem hereabouts according to DD. The steep road up from her house to the main road was like a skating rink with cars slithering all ways. She said it was very frightening. DGD should have been doing an early shift in Leeds and didn't get there until mid morning thanks to all the delays. They weren't happy. They were lucky she got there at all IMO!! Then coming back home the bus up here had stopped running all the way up to the terminus so she had to walk the rest of the way which was the grand finale to a miserable day for her. DD has just texted to say school is closed today so no school run for her which she is relieved about. I am so glad I am retired when I look back on the times in the past that I had to trek the 3 miles to work when we were knee deep in snow. Hard going!
So another day stuck safely indoors for me. I might do the Friday Tidy today as tomorrow is earmarked for postponed lunch with DF, Once again it will be weather permitting!
It's so sad about your neighbour GERS, Good news CAMELOT from the hospital. Hope NAN is the same. IZZY oh that sounds a nasty fall, hope you are feeling less sore. I'm not sure about Ostrich steaks either COXY. I would put it on a par with kangaroo.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care, stay warm and safe if you can xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10 -
Last night was the coldest of the year, it's still -4° with a promised rise to -1° today, not the best promise. Mind you, tomorrow is meant to be much milder, meanwhile it's perishing.Yesterday was spent doing fiddly admin stuff, ringing companies and so on. Nothing interesting. The only thing which interested me was the gritter driving past, the last time we had any lying snow was more than five years ago. There was a two minute flurry later on which was like a shower of dandruff. @TA - I remember trudging through knee deep snow as a child. Even as an adult I recall one severe winter with snow waist high. *shudder*
Today I'm off to my pool exercise class for the first time since mid December, I've still got an intermittent cough which seems to be more throaty than chesty. 🤞
Ostrich meat sounds interesting @Coxy, I suppose we aren't used to seeing such meats on menus here. I hope you enjoyed it.Keep warm folks.10 -
Morning all
Very cold and frosty here but still no snow, it’s meant to get a bit milder at the weekend so I don’t suppose we will get any 🙁
I am off to collect Rob today as his mum said he seems a bit better, she wants help with an email to the sw so I have said I will help her and then I will take Rob for a haircut, after that we will come home and take the dogs out for a walk and maybe make a cake before taking him home, I could take him to his work but it’s very cold there and I think he will be better in the warm.
Dinner tonight will be chicken Kiev chips and peas nice and easy, I have put a wash on this morning but it will have to go on the airer.
izzy I hope you are ok after your tumble xx
Camelot glad yesterday went well xx
Gers sorry to hear your neighbour is so frail I bet he enjoyed your visit xxx
Have good days all and take care xx

Morning all. Frosty outside and not much warmer in here.
A busy day yesterday as I was helping at the Larder. Although fresh vegetable supplies are a bit low because of the floods we are still getting lots of bargains. I reckon I must have got over £20 worth of food yesterday for my £3.50, including a whole cooked chicken, 500g minced beef and a chunk of M&S Edam cheese. The mince has gone in the freezer and we're having the chicken for dinner tonight.
I'm off to babysit at DD's in a while as she has to be involved in a work Zoom call, even though she's on Maternity Leave. I'll take some lunch with me and my knitting so it shouldn't be too onerous!
Hope everyone's day goes well.10 -
Hi everyone,
Hurrah, I managed to get on the laptop before evening, both children have gone to nursery. Esben has been off the last two days with a cold/cough so it's been very busy.
We had a loan car for a few days because Steve had a slight accident just after Christmas and our car was in for repair of the very slight cosmetic damage we had. We wouldn't have bothered but the other car had more damage so we decided to take advantage of paying the excess. Annoyingly it has been returned with worse damage on it than it had so it is going back next week for another repair.
Izzy, I hope you're less sore today.
TA, I agree. I remember coming home from work in snow once - Steve was driving me and we came to the bottom of a hill where passengers were pushing cars to get them started up the hill and then jumping in as the car started moving. When it came to our turn I got out but couldn't get any grip in my heels so took them off and pushed the car in my stockinged feet. It started moving but instead of hovering like the other cars had done Steve set off at pace and left me standing in the snow in essentially bare feet. I decided I might as well push the next car as he hadn't a passenger and luckily he waited for me to get in and took me up the hill. Steve was waiting at the top, I might add he got an earful about it.
Coxy, I hope you enjoyed the ostrich, I should imagine it was quite gamey which would have suited me.
Have aa good day.10 -
Morning all, brrr it's -4 here and I don't think it will get into + degrees even though the sun is out. My appointment was running an hour late yesterday and the news wasn't good as I have cancer. I am back at the rabbit warren hospital at lunchtime for another biopsy organised by the consultant, oh joy what a great start to 2024 ! Sadly I wasn't the only one getting the same news. I will call in the pharmacy for some new meds on the way home too, so that'll be me and Mr Fix it taking our cancer meds together, must have had a BOGOF 😁 We were so late home yesterday that we had a Chinese takeaway and there's some lo for tonight.
Camelot I'm glad your appointment went well. I don't have a letter for today either so I hope there's no problem.
WL that's a good haul at the Larder, I wish we had something like that here, There are lots of "up against it" families around here.
Coxy what did the steaks taste like ?
TA I too remember trudging through the snow to school everyday in 62'-63' and getting sent home again as the outside toilets were frozen and the boiler didn't have any coal as the lorry couldn't get through. Oh they were the good old days 🤣
Hugs to the poorly, sad or lonely ones
Take care all
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
