Do you think any supplier will replace the battery in a L+G E6 meter?SAC2334 said:
What ! so when your TV remotes battery runs down do you describe that as "broken " , or any of the many battery devices we have .It aint broke , just needs battery charging or replacing .Spoonie_Turtle said:
It is broken if it's not doing its job of recording usage.SAC2334 said:
You have to phone your supplier as you are now using unregistered gas which is not allowed. The meter is not broken unless you think a flat battery makes any appliance "broken "LutherL33 said:HELP NEEDED - I have an EDF meter for gas and it's a card top up E6 type Landis Gyr however it is completely BLANK. No, they won t replace it even though its very easy to do that with the meter in situ. Battery is £15 but they replace the meter . This meter is supposed to cut off gas supply when the battery is flat but sometimes it does not do that . Of course there is criticism of gas meters cutting off supply leaving people with no heating in cold weather, but it defintely speeds up the reporting of the meter to the supplier .MeteredOut said:

And if that were something the OP could do themselves then maybe you might have a point.SAC2334 said:

You're not seriously comparing a device designed for batteries to be easily replaced by the user (for which batteries are readily available to buy to do just that), with something that the user cannot possibly sort out when the battery has died, are you?

The meter would have been showing " low battery " on the meter for weeks or months..That is the time to call the supplier ,not ask a question about it recording usage whilst blank screen on an energy forum .Spoonie_Turtle said:

Well, it might have been showing low battery - the fact that it is supposed to doesn’t mean that it was!
OP - don’t worry about the “using unregistered gas” thing - yes, you do need to report it urgently to the supplier, but don’t be panicking that they will cut your supply off until they can change the meter or anything like that!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

^ Does it show "Low battery" though, or just some other sort of ambiguous indicator?
I'm good with tech and do read my meters manually even though they're smart (as one likes to not bother reporting, often), but I wouldn't know what more to do than just take the reading. I don't ever recall being distributed with a manual, and even then the UI should be idiot-proof for an all-household device. (It might be! However I've never seen a low battery indicator, so I'm asking).0
