Broken Gas meter

HELP NEEDED - I have an EDF meter for gas and it's a card top up E6 type Landis Gyr however it is completely BLANK. I have tried topping up and it is still not working but we are still getting the gas supplied. Does this meter have the ability to record the usage since it has been off?

You have to phone your supplier as you are now using unregistered gas which is not allowed. The meter is not broken unless you think a flat battery makes any appliance "broken "
The meter would have been giving a warning sign on the meter "low battery " and according to your terms and conditions of supply that is the time to get in touch with your supplier .

If smart meters were any good they'd phone home when the low battery warning popped up.
Why should the burden to monitor the meter on the wall fall on consumers?  They probably haven't even been told their so-called smart gas meter has a battery, let alone how they should check it.

If OP did have a smart meter it would have alerted the supplier to a low battery.

OP, however, doesn't have a smart meter. They have a dumb electronic card-prepayment meter.

The OP will be visiting their meter periodically to top up their prepayment. This is their opportunity to see the "low battery" warning.
Who else would you expect to be checking a dumb gas meter monthly?

    Is it this meter?

Note the comment on that blog post.

(Note that is Siemans but same model as Landis + Gyr)

You have to phone your supplier as you are now using unregistered gas which is not allowed. The meter is not broken unless you think a flat battery makes any appliance "broken "

It is broken if it's not doing its job of recording usage.

Do you know for sure the Landis + Gyr E6 has a "low battery" warning or are you assuming that?

If its the one I linked to above, it does not. It does have a "b" indicator (alongside C, d & E) and I've read that might mean low battery, but (if true) a supplier cannot expect a customer to know that (or even look out for that).

Saying that, a blank screen is a sure sign the battery is flat, and the OP should be notifying their supplier.

If I was the OP, I'd also be checking their readings look normal in the period (months) leading up to the screen going blank - my E6S was incrementing even whilst isolated from the gas. It's currently being tested.

Because its in everyones Terms and Conditions to report any fault on any meter as soon as possible to their supplier. Every supplier has the same T and C s . Does not matter what the fault is they have to report it .
Smart meters do report back to the suppliers on low battery  but its the suppliers who are not any good of taking notice and are negligent  with both smart and dumb meters . Dumb meters can t report faults
  • Call your supplier and they will be able to arrange for a meter replacement for you, the blank display is likely caused by the battery running out on the meter as others have mentioned.
