Sky Broadband contract renewal / or not

My broadband contract finishes in a month, They sent me renewal options , obviously with price rises. I phoned up saying i will cancel at end of contract unless they agree to renew at exactly the same price as i have at present. The guy agreed to this and sent me a confirmation email straight away but when i looked closely at the email it quoted speeds of  20 mps as opposed to 68mps which is what i have currently.
I queried this and he said he doesn't know why it says that, it should be at the same speed as it is now. I asked him to confirm this in another email, he said he couldn't?  but if i found that the speed wasnt right i  could cancel within 30 days.
What would you good people do. other than this ive been happy with sky.

Don't forget it will go up in March or April.  If it is the same as Plusnet, it is CPI + 3.9%.

We have negotiated a price reduction for our renewal on 15th February, it's only a few quid but better than nothing I suppose.  I haven't pressed the button yet but I am limited in my choices as I want to retain the phone line and pay for a call plan.  That, and the fact that other providers have abysmal customer service ratings.

I wouldn't have thought they should lower the speed - Plusnet haven't stated that for us with our discount, although it is something I will check.
  • Just been on the phone to them again today, guess what, they have no record of yesterdays conversation, will have to check and call me back. Lost patience with them and have told them to forget it, I will not renew with them at the end of this contract, guy went through cancellation process and have got email confirmation on cancellation.  How to lose loyal customers in one easy go, i was all ready to continue with them but they cant confirm what they promise .

Unless going to or from Virgin Media (and possibly 1 or 2 niche suppliers) you never ever cancel your broadband. You need to find an alternative supplier and let them handle the hand over. You can be left without any broadband for a period until the line has been released. There's always the possibility if the cabinet is full that you could be without entirely and you'll definitely lose your landline number if that's important to you.

For all their faults, Sky don't do that (yet). The fixed term price is the fixed term price.
