No need to hang your head in shame ! The forum is a place where people who aren't familiar with various topics can find answers from those who do have such knowledge. Lots of things aren't obvious until they've been pointed out.The confusion between the shiny portable toy (the IHD) and the smart meter on the wall is widespread, largely as a result of very poor advertising.5

Although you never wanted a smart meter in the first place but it now seems you have one whether you like it on not, maybe it might be worth asking your supplier for a IHD so you can see your usage for the hour/day/month at a glance.1
