Halifax app running OK on my Android phone but from reading elsewhere a couple of possibilities are virus protection software and screen readers, either of which can flag up issues with banking apps.
Try disabling these if you have any and try the app again.

    Ditto VPNs.
  • I have exactly the same problem with a Blackberry Key2. It's an old handset running Android 8.1.0 that hasn't had any updates for years, but I need a phone with an onboard keyboard because touchscreens are excruiciatingly painful due to a condition with my hands.

Not sure what Android version to run Halifax app, but that is going to be boarderline. Which will mean you soon won't be able to use your phone.

For example FD is Android 9 or above. If you do not have 9+, then app does not work.

But you can still access your account via internet browser.

Would a mini bluetooth keyboard with a modern phone solve the problem?, e.g.:

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?
Try Bank of Scotland instead - I can view all my Halifax accounts on that and vice versa
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?
  • I called Halifax again yesterday and, it would seem, anyone you speak to is regurgitating some pre-written blurb as it was word-for-word the same as what I was told last time I called. Perhaps not surprising, but I kept pushing him and eventually he (sort of) admitted that they've done all they're going to do to tackle this, so if it's not working now, it never will. His last words were "you'll have to buy a new phone".

I've just looked at some other banks (e.g. First Direct) and I can't even get as far as installing some of their apps, so I guess I'll just have to live with the fact my phone is an ageing dinosaur along with its owner. Such is the curse of seemingly being one of very few people who wants a physical keyboard these days, though I've always been surprised about that as it feels as though it should be an accessibility consideration given how painful touchscreens are. (Surely I can't be the only one that feels this?)

born_again, yes, I know it's an old handset, but it's one of very few I can use. I was looking at this – https://www.fxtec.com/pro1x – before I bought my Blackberry (which was only last year), but it's been out of stock then and ever since. There are some handsets by Unihertz that run a later OS, but they don't have very good reviews.

GeoffTF, I could go down the external keyboard route, but it's just another thing to carry around, so I'd rather avoid that.

surreysaver, I just tried Bank of Scotland, but it doesn't recognise my username.

Thanks for all your suggestions anyway!

You cannot log in to BOS with the Hfx details, you need to set up a new BOS account but you can use the same log in if you wish

All the LBG apps require Android 7.0 as minimum spec although I have had some problems trying to use 8 with some devices.

I had this error pop up after the app updated back in Nov.
The phone's an Android, never been rooted and has been running the app for over two years without a problem.
I was told that the next update would fix it. The update rolled out last Friday and nothing's changed!
Called the helpline a number of times, and they have no idea when a fix will be rolled out and have no way to communicate with the app developers!

I've tried 3 other banks apps and they all work without a problem.

Anyone else had this and found a fix?  Or do I just move banks?

    Thanks
I'm having the same issue with the Lloyds app on android 14 (pixel 7). I started getting this message in Dec 23, I updated in Jan and it worked for 2 days and then got the message again, I sent my phone off for repair in Feb and got it back 2 weeks ago. App was working fine until today and I now have same jailbroken message. Lloyds are refusing it's a problem their end and are telling me to use web page, I'm disabled and struggle with using webpage on mobile. It's so frustrating as I brought the phone in August and it worked perfect till Dec, even went 10 days without phone while it was being repaired which looks like it didn't even need to be sent in the first place.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
