    Thanks all for your replies. 
    What actually happened is this. I just walked into my nearest Barclays branch. I had my account details on another old statement and my switching letter. 
    After I'd given the very helpful lady some ID (driving licence) she ordered me up the relevant statements and told me I should have them in about a week. 
    I went in to the branch rather than ring as I didn't want to get into some long garbled conversation with an overseas call centre. Its generally a lot easier to get tricky things done when you're dealing with a local person who is standing right in front of you. It's also much easier to do ID. I've done on-line ID and it's a nightmare.

    I find it better Going to branch, thank talking on the phone to someone in India! some branches can print statements I think but not all,
