Halifax cash deposit machine ‘stole’ my £100
Comments

On the day, they made me second guess myself and said I should go search my car and home incase I lost some of the cash before entering the bank. I had the money in an envelope secured with a rubber band and then in my purse. I drove from home straight to the bank, no way I lost some on the way. But I listened and went home to search regardless. I am 100% certain I had the right amount, I'm just so sad this happened.0

Of course the machine would have recorded the amount credited. What needed to be checked was the actual cash balance in the machine.honeyslexy said:@retiredbanker1 No, I didn't. I usually don't use the machine for large deposit but the cashier was closed, so I reluctantly used it. I put in all the notes at once and it returned some. I'm short £1,000. I went back to the Halifax branch today and they said there's nothing they can do as the machine recorded only the amount I was credited.0 -
I might be a bit out of date and I did not work full time in a branch that had one of these machines - but I do remember you could only put in a certain amount of notes at a time - was there any kind of signage on the machine indicating this?honeyslexy said:@retiredbanker1 No, I didn't. At this stage you claim to have put in £1000 more than was credited and you are adamant that you had the correct amount - have you got any proof of where the money came from i.e. did you sell something for £xx ?
If so you have to start a formal complaint - let them investigate fully and come back to you.
If you are not happy with the complaint's outcome you reserve the right to go to the ombudsman.0 -
Yes I have proof of where the money came from, i confirmed this with them at the bank too. Infact I stopped by at the post office prior to going to the bank but they said I could only deposit £3,000. I deposited there and counted the balance on my way out, drove straight to the bank. The machine only takes 50 notes at a time but I put in 90 notes as I didn't realise. It deposited the first 50 notes and returned only 20.0

Have you been back to the Post Office to see if their counter had an 'over' that day?honeyslexy said:Yes I have proof of where the money came from, i confirmed this with them at the bank too. You say that you counted the balance on the way out - could you have dropped some notes?
I would never think of counting money out in a public place.1
