British Gas Heat Pump installations

I only mentioned about the restart consumption as Oliver said his didn't spike after 4 hours of being off.
I'll try running at 30+ temperatures and see how that works out.
I've got espaltherma set up, while I know some folks say isn't the most accurate, it at least gives a baseline to work off.
The problems come when some people don't like what they see and `correct' it to what they think it should be.
When making comparisons to other installations you have to remember that heat meters are usually inside the heated area whereas measurements from the heat pump are from outside. It makes some difference to things depending on the installation.0 -

Matt, looking at your emoncms, when your heatpump is not running your outside air temperature records live temperatures.
Are you using alternate thermostat as when my heatpump stops, so does the live temperature recording till it starts up again.0 -
That is not the outside temperature from my heat pump or anything else at my house.
It is a standard thing on emoncms, the outside temperature comes from the local weather station and is dealt with by OEM.
The room temperature is actually from my house and it's in a bedroom quite near the hot water tank. It's just where it is at the moment because it works there.
I do have the external Daikin temperature sensor fitted. There is one in the heat pump but I also have another connected to the MMI which is on a north facing wall away from the heat pump.
It is live all the time and I can see the outside temperature in the Onecta app.
You don't have that external thermostat?0 -
Yes I've got one one on the heatpump and one on the North facing wall, but once the heatpump stops, so does the live oat feed to emomcms.
I've no idea about the local weather station feed, I'll have to look into that. Thanks0 -
"so does the live oat feed to emomcms."
A whole new world to look forward to...0 -
Hi all. Some great information there. I’m going to have to read and re read them to fully take it in. @mattdrummer you may be right about the way the heat pump work, all I have to go on is my smart meter IHD and the info I get from that via Loop. From that I can see that my consumption is a steady ~400 w per hour. There is a little fluctuation maybe down to 350w and up to 450w. This is all at times I am either not in, or know I am not using any power other than my base load. So you are right I can’t see exactly what is going on. I have noted what you said about the Daikin not liking the lower flow temp and is probably more inefficient at temps below 30c. And mine has been running for a while below 30c, because I’d put a -10c offset on. So I’ve dialled that back to -3c and I’ll see what happens. My temperatures had stabilised around 18.5c , which is plenty for me. It will be interesting to see what happens to consumption and temperature with the offset reduced. Of course nothing is perfect because the outside temp is constantly changing. I only have the on board thermostat, nothing external to the heat pump and I notice how it is influenced by the sun. My heat pump is in quite a sunny spot, SE facing. I only have the info from the MMI to gauge the cop. I am using the total figures since instal as my calculation method. I know that they aren’t as accurate as other measurements, but it’s all I have. From that I get about cop 2 for water and 4 for heating. But the heating cop has been declining, ( from a little over 4 to a little below 4) maybe because I dialled the offset down so much. I’ll give it a week at the new offset and see what happens. Thanks to you all for the input.0

Hello all. I am wondering if others with a Daikin have experienced problems with their Daikin ONECTA app. On Sunday my heat pump stopped. couldn’t get any support from BG. I did notice some odd things about the ONECTA app, but didn’t link the two. Then on Tuesday, system still not working, I deleted and reinstalled the app and voila the heat pump worked again. BG sent an engineer today. He confirmed that the ONECTA app is a little flaky and that deinstall and reinstall is the way to address this and get the heat pump working. Has anyone else experienced this problem? On the temp issue last discussing with @mattdrummer when I changed the offset my consumption went up significantly and the cop went down, so I reset it back to where I had it. I guess all systems are a little prima donna-ish.0

British Gas have told me they are not providing maintenance after the initial first year. Looking on the web and because I have the three systems, Daikin, mixergy and the hive controller, it’s looking like an annual cost of around £700 for maintenance. This is crazy, what are you guys all finding and or doing regarding maintenance?0

I have been offered a contract via Heatforce who installed the unit under contract from BG but I also understand that Heatforce are no longer an installer. The BG engineer who did the ASHP service says that Heatforce's work wasn't up to expected standards so they were removed although I've had no problems with mine.0
