Fixing a gas leak? Insurance?

British Gas and British Gas Homecare are two entirely disparate things (yes, confusing).englishlady90 said:
Sorry, very new to this! I have the same situation as the OP, cadence came and said it’s our pipework not the meter and not their side, so after the meter. We have homecare with British Gas.. I have a small child in the house.MeteredOut said:
Officially, it depends entirely where the leak is - before or after the gas meter?englishlady90 said:@jezebel did British Gas cover the fix to the leak? We are in the same situation and I’m freaking out…
You initially asked if British Gas had fixed the OPs leak. Since the leak is after your meter, it is your responsibility and British Gas (or the gas network provider, Cadent) would not fix this.
You've now said you have BG Homecare insurance. Based on a quick google, they should cover this, but that may depend on what package you have. Have you checked with them?
Unless the small child in your house is Gas Safety Registered, their presence is unlikely to alter change this.2 -
Yes, I asked if BG had fixed this because OP also had the homecare plan and the leak in her pipework after the meter. This is what I was trying to find out. They are not committing over the phone to whether or not it’s included so now it’s a waiting game until they actually show up for their appointment.. was just seeking some reassurance as I’m very stressed out.MeteredOut said:

How bad is the leak? I assume the Cadent engineer would have turned off the supply if deemed unsafe. When is the appointment with BG Homecare?englishlady90 said:

said it’s not major, but have switched everything off. British Gas coming tomorrow. I know it’s not loads to wait in the grand scheme of things but as I said, I’m very panicked and was just looking online for anything similar..MeteredOut said:

How did you get on with this?
I'm finding it impossible to get insurance that actually covers gas installations fully.
Home emergency cover only covers the emergency bit. No trace and access or permanent repairs to pipework. Buildings insurance only seems to cover trace and access for oil and water, not gas.
That BG homecare policy doesn't work as in the t&c's it says- Unlimited repairs to your boiler and controls and gas supply pipes that are visible and accessible
Seems impossible to get cover for the gas system from the meter up to and including the gas appliances even if you take out every insurance under the sun.
