Equally if your son was 18 and not in education/employment they can claim UC as a single person.   This would not affect your claim either.

Thanks peteuk but are you sure it wouldn’t affect our claim? Surely the amount we get would go down if one child started claiming UC?

this is a breakdown of what we get one of us working

    I don’t understand this minus‑ £519.61?

    What we take off (deductions)

    Take-home pay

    minus‑ £519.61

    Need help understanding take-home pay?

Take-home pay is what's left after tax, National Insurance and any pension contributions have been deducted.

The amount we'll use to work out your Universal Credit is£0.00

    Earnings reported by your employer
    £1,323.75

The amount we'll use to work out your Universal Credit is£1,323.75

The total take-home pay for this period is £1,323.75

The first £379.00 of your take-home pay doesn't affect your Universal Credit monthly amount. Every £1.00 you earn in take-home pay over this amount reduces your Universal Credit by 55 pence.

From 30 March 2020, the Minimum Income Floor does not apply.

We will tell you when this changes. Find more information in your journal.

    Total deductions

    minus‑ £519.61

Your total payment for this month is

    £2,513.37

That's not correct. The child element for the young person will end in this case so their UC would be reduced.

It's the deduction for earned income.

    Earnings reported £1,323.75 - work allowance £379.00 = £944.75
    Earnings deduction £944.75 x 0.55 = £519.61

    Thanks all.

I wish I could get UC off my back we are doing all we can to get more work as everyone is struggling, if one of our children is even working now because of the desperate situation

it’s really hard out there there are not many jobs available for people like u
So are you still on the 30 hours then, because in December you were talking about voluntarily reducing to 20?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
