If a family get UC child benefit and the eldest child starts a part time low paid job (8hrs week) as well as doing GSEs how will it affect UC payment and child benefit?

Im finding confusing information like -“ Child Tax Credit usually stops on the last day of August after your child's 16th birthday, or when they leave education or training if this happens later. Both Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit will stop if your child starts: Working 24 or more hours a week. Claiming benefits such as Universal Credit themselves.”

this doesn’t tell you how much UC Will decrease if at all??

I’m trying to put it into benefits calculator but it’s proving troubling

No need to report it, it won't effect any benefits in those circumstances.

    Thanks Sammy

I did wonder if it would help with the hour requirement to get UC off our backs for not working enough hours

We used to be on soft touch but then my employer reduced hours and now my partner and I both have to keep proving job search and put under pressure to get more hours, I wonder if our eldest daughter starts working 8 hours at a cafe will that put us up back into soft touch

No, because the earnings taken into account are only yours and your partner's.  A child's working and/or income are not.

They are a child in FTE so are disregarded for those purposes, if they were an adult they would be classed as a separate household.

What is the difference if one person in the house does more hours to bring income in?

It depends on whether that person is part of the household assessed for the benefit.  Your household for benefits is you and your  partner.

As explained above your son''s income does not affect your benefits.
