Named Driver

Just run several comparisons & it is clearly asked when you add a named driver, later on who will be the main driver. Maybe it than changes cost?HillStreetBlues said:
I don't think that's correct.sheramber said:
But if you are the named driver you are no longer the named driver. You can't be both. A named driver is for occasional use only.chrisw said:
There's nothing to stop the named driver being the main driver, it just needs to be properly declared.sheramber said:
If he is not able to drive and you are the only driver you nshould be the msain driver.Sarah69 said:Hi this might sound a complicated post! My dad had a stroke just over a week ago. How could I be a named driver on his policy, he would be unable to speak to his insurer himself as his speech has been affected a little bit. I need this because my mum and maybe my dad now need appointments to drs/hosp etc and they can’t get in my car it’s too small.
When I took out insurance I had a named driver and the next question was who would be the main driver.Life in the slow lane0 -
A named driver is for occasional use only.As above, where do you get that idea from?1

your wife is the main driver, you are both (seperately) the policy holder and a named driverchrisw said:
No it isn't. I'm the policyholder for my wife's car (historical reasons) and she is a named driver but also the main driver. I very rarely drive it.sheramber said:

Just make sure your own insurance covers you for any car. You would likely need to inform the insurance/DVLA about your dads condition.

Named driver policies are only appropriate if the named driver is not the main driver (main user) or the owner of the vehicle.
Named drivers should be careful to avoid 'fronting', a form of insurance fraud.

I have had policies before where I added a named driver (Spouse) and was then asked who would be the main driver so whilst I agree about being careful on 'fronting' as long as you answer the questions correctly I don't think there is automatically a problem.sheramber said:Named driver policies are only appropriate if the named driver is not the main driver (main user) or the owner of the vehicle.
