Can't switch BB providers as Openreach has address listed wrong

Options
Hello,

I'm wanting to switch away from my current BB provider (Virgin) but I've run into a major stumbling block. I've tried two different providers that serve my street and both have said they cannot do an installation because the address Openreach has listed and my actual address are different. For example:

Openreach address for AB12 3CD is: 99 Plain St, Boringtown

Actual address for AB12 3CD is: 99 Cul-de-sac, Plain St, Boringtown

The top address doesn't even exist as only large purpose built shops occupy that area now.

I was initially told I needed to contact Openreach to get it changed but soon discovered they only deal with providers. I went back and was told by one provider (Vodaphone) they would get in touch with Openreach to change the address to the correct one. It's been 5 working days and my address still appears as the top one.

Am I just stuck with my current provider?

Your Virgin service is , as far as Openreach are concerned , irrelevant, normally if there is a discrepancy between the Royal Mail database entry for your address and the one Openreach hold , your existing provider needs to arrange a ORDI check , but you don’t have an existing provider on Openreach and as you have discovered, OR don’t talk to consumers, they talk to ISP’s , the ISP talk to consumers, that’s the way Ofcom want it .

It’s possible to raise an order on non matching addresses but the ISP selected has to be sufficiently interested and know the process to get it done , it would seem the one you tried cannot be bothered or lacks the ability to manipulate the common OR systems that all providers have access to .

You could try a different Openreach providers , until you find one that knows what they are doing , but obviously that requires you to raise an order with that ISP and you may not want to use them
  • Thanks for the info.

Still no luck on my address being updates. I will try one of the larger providers like BT or Sky. Their deals aren't as good but at least they're cheaper than Virgin and have better customer care scores.
