Geriatricmum vs inner voice: A monologue

  • A few weeks ago the hat would have me itching too, but frankly I now haven't got the disposable income which helps. 'Do I really want to burn savings/add to the debt?' works for me.

Inner voice tells me this all the time, it's their mantra

I used to pack up the pre prepared bits of lunches a few weeks in advance, carton of juice, crisps, penguin type thing etc, then I was just grabbing a bag out of the big bag even if I hadn't sorted a roll.  It saved me from me 4 times out of 5.
I'll work on the lunches! I've been doing cans of soup this week which worked out quite well, but probably not for when it gets warmer.
  • Sounds like you are making good progress!!
Thank you, I am much more aware of what I'm spending, which can only be a good thing.

Anyone else get buyers regret for random things in their house on their debt free journey?!
  • So much buyers regret you wouldn’t believe. A quote that helped me is that you cannot redeem an unwise purchase by holding onto it.  It helps with getting rid for even a portion of the original cost.

If you are happy with soup lunches for the colder weeks how about batch cooking your own for the week? Even cheaper than tins & can be done whilst cooking another meal.

I'm quite good at not hanging into things, I sell or donate clothes as soon as they don't fit or are not needed (I made just under £400 last year selling on vinted and Ebay). I just then put that money in the wrong places. I just like shopping!

Inner voice had suggested this. I'll try and do this tomorrow. 🤞 I don't actually cook most meals in our house DH does... I HATE cooking.
  • Inner voice: "you've not done your end of the week Roundup"
    Me: "I know"
Inner voice: "do it on the bus tomorrow morning or you'll lose momentum"
Me: "I know, I will, determined to see this through."
    Inner voice: "me too"
Me: " now shut it you soppy so and so, got an early start and DS1 isn't sleeping so good"
Inner voice: "you've got this mama"
Me: "oh for Christ's sake not that again!“
  • End of the week roundup:

    Fails:
No homemade lunches (I'll take that)

    Wins:
NO CREDIT CARD SPENDING BY ME OR DH!
    🥳🥳🥳🥂🎉🥳🥳🥳

Pay day today. Gonna work on my personal budget and see what's what.
  • Well done on the no credit card spends in spite of the car repair. Hopefully February will be less expensive.

You seem to be struggling with the home made lunches but if you can live with it then that is what matters. If it is a habit then maybe just start with taking lunch with you one day a week.  I guess if you are not the cook it makes it more difficult.  My DD takes leftovers into work with her from the night befores meal and warms it up at work.

DD21 uses the left overs for her lunches. I might just ask him to batch cook me some soup or ragu and freeze them into portions.

February isn't looking too great tbh. I got paid a bit less than usual as I took some days off when DS1 was unwell and because I'm on my probation period I dont get paid those days.
