PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

We'd like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum. This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are - or become - political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.

Can my old landlord open my post?

My ex landlord (moved out shortly before Christmas) keep emailing me and sending photos of post they've opened of mine.

Are they allowed to do this?

Today they've sent me a message saying I received a bill and need to pay it. Apart from it being a private company asking for money for a parking charge that's currently in dispute so it's not a bill, it feels odd that they're doing this. Id assume they'd return it to sender? Anything important I've updated.

Yes they are allowed to do this. Set up mail redirect for your own mail and contact the individuals and companies with your new details.
  • The quality of glue these days is terrible.  It's amazing how many things "fall open" when hitting the mat.

Get ALL you mail redirected, by both giving new address to those writing to you & paying for a redirection service with the Post Office (yes, that lot, bunch of *******s)

Legally they can open post received at their address.  Most people don't though and either forward it if they know the new address or return to sender or simply bin it.

They may be supposedly a setperate entity but there is still a connection .Shared use of post office buildings and vans  parked to the rear of buildings
You seem to forget the current sub postmaster and there employers in the comments made some of which may not have been employed at the time of the event.
The comments should be directed at the top management and IT department at time of the event.
