Using Tongue and Groove to overboard Ceiling

So it's a no from everyone so far. The reason why I thought of it is that I've spent time in North America where it's very commonly used in both period and modern homes, usually painted white, often to cover an existing ceiling. I've also seen it in kitchens in period houses here and liked the informal look. Of course in North America timber is generally cheaper and there are lots of kits available to make fitting easier. The house is occupied so I think I will have to live with the damage until other building work is done and then have it pulled down and either have it plasterboarded or if I can afford it a new lime plaster ceiling done.0

Plasterboard will probably cost around £500, haired lime on lath, could be £1500 or more unless you do the work yourself. And to be honest, plasterboard is less likely to crack. If you really want a lime finish, slap a bit of Febond Bluegrit on the plasterboard and give it a ~5mm skim of lime (which is what I did in my kitchen).
