You're right and your wrong Esk.

A 3rd party provider is bulk buying flights and beds. If something no longer fits they can't offer it and will refund.

Just as someone taking a cruise needs be aware that there could be differences and pay the extra for flexible.

The same as booking flights and hotel need to be done as flexible and covered by insurance.

But the package holidays win with offering the 'easy option' at low prices. Those low prices come at a cost. Possibily loosing your trip.

Milobrulee do a quick check to see if you can book the items individually for a reasonable price - if you can take the money and book yourself. But book flexible.

LoveHolidays don't bulk buy flights. They dynamically package. They will book available flights with an airline at the on the day cost. Then add a hotel room (either directly or via an intermediary bed bank) to form a package. It's not much different to doing it DIY only you get the "wrapping" of a package, meaning ATOL certificate and protection under the PTRs.

Unfortunately having looked at the cost of the hotel going solo, it’s much much more than what I paid three months ago.

If you were willing to fly to/from Heraklion (HER) then LoveHolidays might be able to change.

Thanks, Heraklion is a good idea. It’s 2hrs from my hotel and it only flies back to Gatwick, but I’ll see what LH say. Just sent a message to them to see if they’ll agree to that change.
