I’ve just got a quote for contents insurance from Saga.  It was £55.94 for a year or £93.11 a year fixed for 3 years.  That’s for a 3 bedroomed house, 2 pensioners and we live in a very low crime area.

when I bought my first property it was an ex council flat in SW London.  When I asked for a quote (pre internet days) I was told they couldn’t insure me as the flat was left empty all day.  I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.  When I spoke to them again they couldn’t see the funny side of it.  I should think most people living in London are out to work all day  :D

I did get a quote from another firm, they did see the funny side of it

Where there many claims from people living in the same postcode as yourself?
That has a habit of putting prices up for everyone in the postcode.

OP Did you get a discount last year for being a new customer?

I got my renewal from Direct line - no increase for 3rd year running so I renewed.
I have been with this firm for 5yrs and it has gone down every year. £135 for 2 bed and i have c and b insurance with accidental damage.  I look at house insurance  for the big things like water and fire.

My previous insurer quoted me £129 on the renewal for this year. Told them to foxtrot oscar.

Comparison sites were in the £200 area.

End terrace, 2 bed and 20+ years no claims.

    Went with Tesco at £62.11.

Similar policy as previously. So no ideas why it's such stupid prices.

OP Did you get a discount last year for being a new customer?
Would have been illegal if they did @retiredbanker1 as the regs were changed from 1/1 last year to say renewing customers cannot be charged more than new customers.

They get round it by offering cashback or vouchers - same difference in the end.
