Prices of specific things change.  It happens.  You can try to negotiate a lower price or you can shop around.

I do/will shop around but was just surprised by a over 100% increase.

Sometimes insurer's appetites change but rather than giving a straight decline to those they no longer wish to insure they instead give very high quotes instead.

Either go back to them and try to negotiate more favourable price or shop around

So mine has gone up more!  Most insurers won't quote.  Nine years + no claims, only two quotes in, £220 and £275 - gone up from £73 pa.  Help!
    may your good days grow

How have you ascertained that only 2 will quote? Seems unusual... I struggle to get sensible quotes thanks to handbag collections etc but still plenty more will quote than 2 just they quote £2,000+

Because of the rampant price increases we saw, because of inflation,  the cost of insurance claims has gone up so the premiums have also gone up.

Combine that with extra costs on insurers from regulators and it's no wonder the premiums have gone up so much.
  • OP Did you get a discount last year for being a new customer?

I got my renewal from Direct line - no increase for 3rd year running so I renewed.
