I agree with you to plan on your own. If you're in a 'unit' as someone called it, you can't just plan as a unit. That simply isn't going to work, once one of you dies, or runs away with someone else (it happens!) , Whereas if you both plan to be ok with individual planning, then you'll also be fine as a 'unit'.tell_it_how_it_is said:The boss effectively will have full state pension, plus a very small other one, so around £1k per month, but think that's just lost should the worst happen (no DB).I do appreciate the partner and other parameters may create a different dynamic in due course. I guess it's just the way I roll as in worst case scenario, would it be realistic to manage on my assets alone, or am I in cloud cuckoo land.1 -
I agree it's difficult. As a 'unit', we have accumulated far more than we will need in retirement, but if one person dies early, the survivor may have a bleak 30 years ahead of them. It's a difficult (and expensive) balancing act. SIPP/DC pensions help that may be passed on in full, but the loss of 1 x SP and 50% plus of any DB income is hard to mitigate against.eastcorkram said:

The bigger issue for me is the management of our savings and my dc pot if I go first. It's just my opinion and not advice.2
