Sky Mobile Rollover & Price Rises

This morning at 10.30am, I received an email from Sky Mobile in which it advised of prices rises for those customers who are not on a current fixed term contract and a reduction in the Data Rollover period from 3 years to 1 year. This was how they worded it:
"The way the Roll feature works is changing from 1 April 2024. Your
monthly rolled unused data will be available in your Sky Piggybank for
12 months before expiring."
I've no idea why Sky are doing this but it is REALLY MEAN. Therefore from 1st April 2024 any data rolled over between 1/4/2021 and 31/3/2023 will vanish.
I suggest that those customers with old rolled data from this period top up from their piggy banks onto their phones before 1st April in order that if they dont use it during this month, February and March, it will roll back into their Piggy Banks and provide up to another 12 month's life on their data rollover.

Surely if you have taken out a new 12 month contract recently which includes the provision of Data being rolled over for 3 years then Sky will be in breach of contract if they remove this facility within the 3 year period. There could be some legal challenges to this.

This is quite annoying because I know I'm not getting the best deal with sky compared to lebara, lycamobile or ID. For me, the rollover was handy because you can use a bank of rollover data which you can use during spikes in data use. I'm always close to a wifi spot so use very little ,mobile data.If you have a big bank of rollover data, I would suggest you drop down to the minimum data amount and use up the rollover before they take it away.I have 2 numbers on sky one on 4gb. And another sim one 100mb data. The 100mb just uses rollover data which is surplus from the 4gb sim.Works very well and cheaper overall.I had to this because they removed the 2GB and 3GB sim cards. So 4gb and 100mb sims can be used together quite well ifntheyre on the same account. If the rollover gets shortened ever more (I looked at another network that just had 3 month rollover) then it would cease to be useful and you're then just better off going on cheaper sim plan with 5-6GB data for £5.0

I have rollover data that's older than 1 year.I'm going to try this, I'm rolling forward all the data I have saved so it will "saved" any unused data and store it as newly rolled data.Edit: done, all the piggyback data is loaded onto the sim cards for this month. You can only load 5GB at a time. Hopefully the excess will be stowed away back into the piggyback and will have refreshed lifeMy rolling monthly contract renews in 13 days. I'll update what happened tomthe data then0

update: Ok this was quite nerve wracking because the rollover does not get loaded into your piggybank immediately, takes about 10 hours or so. As my billing month rolled over, I saw the refreshed data but my piggybank was <1GB.I was gutted, I thought I messed up and lost all my rolled over data. Then later the following day, I got all the newly rolled data added back. Hopefully this has refreshed the age of the rolled data.
Do it at your own risk, I was really !!!!!! myself.I will know on 19th April whether this has worked. I shouldnt have any expired data if all goes well.2 -
I have rolled over data to get another 3 years on numerous occasions, if you do it sharpish then it will run for three years. To be honest the data is useless unless you need it in an emergency.
It is critical you get people in the UK call centers if you want any haggling, listen for the dulcet Scottish tones, the best they offer is 20% and as their minimum is now £8 for 2gb so £6.40
I have a hack to keep the data alive for up to 3 years if you leave Sky and come back in the next three years. So if you want to nip off to Lebara at £2 a month for 6 months and then come back it can keep your piggy bank alive. The Lebara contract is a monthly free to leave at any time, so you can request a PAC at 5 months and apply it at Sky. There is a cost to this hack but you get something for your money.
I also have a hack I discovered when calling them for my nephew who has special needs that goes above and beyond what they offer publicly for social tariffs.

update: it worked. No data was lost and added all the rollover data onto the sims has effectively reset the date on the data.1
