BEST SIM CARD FOR JAMAICA

My 16 yr old grandson is going to Jamaica next month with his rugby team playing some teams over there.
He is going to take his old cheap i phone for obvious reasons.
He is currently on Giff Gaff, but which is the cheapest Pay as you go sim card for him to use just to phone home and what's app etc for the 2 week period?

We bought a cheap 10 day sim card when we visited Croatia from a local supplier. Is that a possibility for Jamaica?

  • Cheapest by far is just to use WiFi when available. Works well for WhatsApp & calling through WhatsApp & similar.
He can hotspot from a friend too.
That’s probably what I’d advise for my child.
Many other options leave the account holder open to large charges if the phone options are misconfigured.
A local sim is less risky but not always easy to find.
im a fan of esims but not all phones accept - and also easy to misconfigure so the home line is still active.

It should be pointed out that on tourist destinations WiFi is not always free.

Given the age of the traveller I would personally not want to rely on there being free WiFi.

I would chose something like Voxi with a Global Roaming Extra at £15  for 15 days. If he uses WiFi when available then that should be more than enough.
