FLD was so handsome  and sounds like he had a wonderful  life with you all and a peaceful timely goodbye with his loved ones there  - pets never leave our hearts. I had my cats ashes for a while but then put them around a gorgeous tree owned by a family member

YNAB has loads of great YT videos to watch with Hannah plus Nick True
Mapped Out Money on YT - as you can keep learning
Plus they have an amazing suppprt team if you get stuck - they will even do one off videos with your own figures if you ask them showing you how to correct issues
on the reconcile stuff I actually do it a couple times a week so I don’t get behind and I often add transactions in manually immediately to keep up to date -
I am about to sit down with a friend who has asked for help on his finances and managing money - I will give him the 4 versions of a budget (on paper, spreadsheet, virtual pots and the big mamma YNAB - for me the immediate acknowledgement of where I am prioritising my spends and the results has completely made it clear that without YNAB I spend way more and save less .
However getting him started in YNAB could be fun . !!

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Awwww … that sounds like a tough day. But a good win on the slabs 😊👏
Sending you a squashy hug and I was going to send you an invite to the Greenfly gardening thread but see you are over there already, so will reply there. 😊
Yes, *so* hear you on the waiting for monies to come in so we know where we are - I’m waiting on my last payout from work after leaving …. 😉 Should be Friday this week 🤞

I wonder if DP being away might give you scope for looking out for local craft or other social groups. If the kids are spending more time away from home, either at their dad’s or as they become more independent you might gradually get the time?

  • Thanks all, I have noted down the number - i finally got a response from payroll yesterday after my threatening to complain about every (damned) person I had come into contact with in that company- I suppose she took that as herself included and changed her tune. She is going to contact the store for me and I have asked for the RM contact details.

I will see where this gets me before going above them.

DP is off to a meeting today, he has sold a computer that he refurbed (he's the tech geek in this house) and will drop it off on the way/ or way back. It's the money from that sale that has kept him out of the red this month 🙏 and considering we are WELL into the red on the CC I am grateful to that.
I've already discussed this with DP but I will pay the CC off entirely on payday/1st November. I will use whatever bonus he is due from his old job and also use the EF so it is paid. I need a clean slate and the fact we had to use it for the vets fees too makes me sad every time I see the CC balance in the YNAB.

So it will be gone soon and I will work on getting EF back to where I want it. When I think about it I have saved possibly £7k this year & £1k ish on MOP without our new jobs or anything so I know I can do it again.

    Today's jobs-
    *make black bean burgers
    * dig at least 1 sq metre of flower bed fully so all weeds are out and the soil is broken up (soil is quite clay heavy around here same as my last house but one). I will use whatever compost I have left and plant one fruit bush today. This sounds like it should be an easy job but the flower bed has around 3" of stones on, it has bindweed all through it and bramble and I think the bed is around 1.5 metres depth and I will dig to around 1metre across. I need to find somewhere to put all the stones too, I did plan on gifting on FB but I am wondering if I should keep for now as I might want them elsewhere, like under the greenhouse before i lay slabs. So will just pile them somewhere for now.
    *hoover downstairs
*Paint one more coat on that cupboard that I abandoned last week.

Brain dump- I am having a break on SM for the most part, I am trying to make myself go on and keep up with the business page I have but I am struggling. My MH is so much better when I just avoid it altogether. The only exception is pin terest for me I find that quite positive but then that is probably because I don't see arguments on there/ talk to people on there/ see stupid posts on there :joy: I am giving the business page some thought and wondering if to abandon altogether. I have had many messages all prodding me for info on things I offered- when I clicked through to the last person's profile that messaged me, she had a similar business. She had made a post after she had messaged me basically offering the same things but 10% off - even used some of my wording. I know that is life and that is business and that is competition, but I just struggle with the ugly side of humanity sometimes and feel like bowing out of it I don't understand why we can't all support each other and work together to build a network of clients as we all do something very slightly different - yes perhaps I am naive... I am giving it some thought before doing so completely though. I enjoy teaching people what I know, helping people.... but finding people in the first place is almost a full time job. And pretty soon I will have another job. My friend has sent me lots of info on fostering too and I feel that I could really make a difference there. DP supports me in whatever I decide and thinks I would be good as does my friend (social worker who works for this fostering company). We need to find an alternative place for DP to work though as he is in the spare room. He actually always wanted to be in the garden in his own space anyway so maybe we need to look at making his office as a priority. I have so many ideas in my head and I am hoping one of them comes to fruition. And soon

Kids are happy at their dad's house, they always seem to spend a lot of time with him when there, sat with him in the evenings etc as DD posts pics on her snap chat. They barely leave their rooms here. 🧐🤔 Anyway I am avoiding seeing those too. So gardening it is today. I will get my exercise in too! I find it weird that I no longer need to hold back 20% of my energy to walk FLD any more and I can just keep going out in the garden- AND there is no dog to go pooping over all my hard work (cats are another problem here though!)
Right going to make the garden the priority as the sky is blue, the sun is trying to poke through and I need some fresh air!
 feeling positive and haven't cried in almost a whole day!

  • Okay I am nearly done in the garden for today. It is backbreaking pulling out bramble and bindweed. However I have discovered the soil is excellent compared to the other house we had round the corner a few years ago! That was solid clay...this has clearly been a gardeners garden at some point. So I've weeded one area around 1.5m x 1m. I will go and put a fruit bush in it soon, just letting the fruit bush sit in water for a bit. I got so many weeds out and I only went around 1.5ft down. I think I will leave off the stones which I removed for now so I could weed...they make it impossible to keep up with the weeding I think because you can't see the network of roots until it is too late and they've popped up everywhere through membrane and stone. Not sure what to do with all these stones though, the last owner bought tonnes of the things and put them everywhere! Here is the during, after & before -they uploaded in the wrong order lol. I am doing just one metre across at a time as this is hard work on my back. If I can get all the fruit bushes in before the first frosts I will consider it enough work done in the garden this season  And this bit of gardening is free as it is just the hard work part which requires a strong back rather than a strong budget.

  • Oh and I have just received an update on the pay saga, after telling me I should contact RM and me saying, yeh great idea what is the contact details she messaged back to say, I can't give them to you :joy: I know I shouldn't be laughing but I am anyway. This is so utterly ridiculous now I have to laugh. She gave me HR email instead. So I have messaged them and complained and they've come back with - what hours did you work, not get paid for and what's your employee no. So let's see eh. When I have had my final pay I will out them on here....just as a warning to any other poor person wanting to go and get a job in this utter clown show.

  • Moving forward from the last job to the new job, I've had my start date which is as I thought -4th November. Got lots of booklets to read and forms to fill out. The wages are just under a grand a month for 24 hours (the most exciting part about the job). Will make sure DP prints off all the forms for me at some point this week.

I've had a look to see when the first predicted frost of the season is and 2nd November came up 😱 so this doesn't give me that long to dig over all the beds and get the plants in that need to go in (around 12-15 I reckon!) eek. I best get DP involved in this one at the weekend if I start slacking and don't get to where I want to be by Fri.

    NSD again. 👏🏼
