Given delivery is quoted as 5 - 6 Jan it has to be coming from UK.

Why do you want to return it?

Contact Amazon live chat and see what they say.  You shouldn't have to return to another country if you bought from Amazon UK

Depends who the seller is and where they’re located. Amazon offers sold and dispatched by Amazon, dispatched but not sold (where they act as delivery and warehousing - logistics), or neither sold nor dispatched by Amazon where they are just the marketplace provider.

The seller is ZHONGYIFEIRF LTD which does have a UK registered address in Bootle, which looks like a warehouse. The business is less than 12 months old, and looks very drop shipping like.

I think it’s a tricky one as these Amazon companies are renowned for shutting up shops when they start getting complaints and reopening under a different name. Whack a mole like.

Personally any Amazon third party company would make me a little nervous to buy from. Ultimately Amazon’s A-Z resolution promises are pretty good, but it can be a lot of hoop jumping and time waiting for Amazon to resolve the issue.

Given it's a UK registered business, the relevant laws are the Consumer Rights Act (fit for purpose, quality, return rights etc), and the Consumer Contracts Regulations (which requires the trader to make available their geographical address and, if different, the geographical address of their place of business before purchase - so they would have to have provided the Chinese address somewhere to require you to send returns there).

would suggest it's worth contacting Amazon customer service highlighting the regs/the fact the Chinese address wasn't provided at point of sale and asking them to require the seller to issue a refund on proof or return to the UK address...

Never said that the UK regs didn’t apply. Just that it’s whackamole with these type of companies. Amazon haven’t got much more control than eBay in these situations.

Sorry, I wasn't disagreeing with you - just quoted because you'd highlighted they were UK registered.

Amazon can (and have in my experience) require the seller to accept a return to a UK address under the A-Z guarantee.

I bought an item on Amazon UK.

They allow returns, but I'd have to pay for it, fair enough.
But they want me to return it to China.
On their storefront, it has them as a UK address.

I have messaged them and waiting for a reply, but is this legit? or are they supposed to give a UK return address?
Bought a pair of boots but wrong item dispatched had to return to Germany.
One very small benefit of the NI protocol no customs declaration form to fill in as would have applied in mainland UK. Returned via Royal Mail at no cost

I’d be very surprised if the occupier of that address has anything to do with this company.  It is increasing common for someone in China to set up a UK company and pick a UK address at random for its registered office - could even be someone’s house. As such, even if you do send it to this address, it’s unlikely that you will get a refund from the seller. Unfortunately, this means that there is no chance of enforcing anything, unless Amazon step in directly and refund it.

Under the A-Z guarantee, if you can prove the return to an address Amazon will accept then Amazon will guarantee the refund (if/how they get the money back from the sellers no idea).

If they can get Amazon to agree then I'd say it's not the OP's problem if that address is actually legit or not - it's the registered address of the UK registered business and the only one provided at point of sale - just need to make sure you get Amazon to agree before actually sending anything and to use a tracked service.
