Garden Flooding
Comments
-
Our gardenbecame water logged at the bottom after waste ground near us was landscaped The landscaping had blocked underground springs that had drained the water to a swamp near the tidla river. The swamp was created when the surrounding ground was developed for housing.
Some people had water running down their back garden to the front garden and out onto the road.
New drains were installed to replace the blocked springs in the worst parts.
My husband dug a trench cross the garden and a large pit for a soak away. In the process he uncovered and old land drain that had been covered over. Put down a layer of gravel then covered over again.
My greenhouse was built over the soakaway and, because the soak away drained into the swamp which drained into the tidal river, i had a self watering greenhouse. The water table rose when the tide came in.
The rest of the garden was fine.
A local framer told us he never thought houses would be built on the area as it was so wet.0
