Not a lot will be saved by using a timer, especially for a family using a fair amount of water.
True for the main (lower) heater, but a 1hr or 2hr timer can be useful for the upper (Boost) heater to make sure it can't be left permanently on by accident and causing massive bills.

I am with octopus, I'm just trying to find ways to put more money in our pockets rather than the *insert rude word* energy companies pockets.

Each January I try to drive bills down, review spending etc
Have you got a smart meter? Honestly just move to tracker if you do.

This is based on what we presume is you have an electric boiler supplying radiators perhaps you can send some pics?
We love in a flat and as such our electricity box is in the hall way meaning octopus can't install a smart reader, as much as I would love one.
They can install a smart meter, the in home display might not work but there are other apps for that if it doesn't once the smart meter is installin the the electricity box in the hall way.

That then opens up your tariff options.

Be careful not to bonk your head against it !

Unlikely to be any reason why a smart meter can't replace an existing meter unless the space is extrely restricted or boxed in.

@inigma Before we get distracted into the Smart or not lets see if we can identify what heating etc you've actually got. Those photo's will be very useful as will those actual meter readings and tariff details.

Then I think it's down to you and some detective work - read those meters at least at the same time every day.

With a little one your bills are never going to be average but with some knowledge you may be able to prune them a little.

  • In the short term, put a daily reminder on your mobile phone or Alexa device etc to switch off the water at night and switch it on in the morning.

Hey, we don't really use the heaters, it's an air pump system which double up as an extractor fan (I live in a dodgy flat built by Irish cowboy builders).l, we got our windows redone 2 years ago and our flat holds the heat so we only switch the heat pump on when we are showering for the extractor fan bit
AFAIK heat pumps don't have extractor fans; sounds more like a heat exchanger unit to minimise the heat that's lost through ventilation.
Do you have any radiators or underfloor electric heating?

@inigma if you can take a picture of any outdoor units, indoor units and the heaters that will help us piece this together.

Here it is, there is no other units to speak of, the AIFAK are just holes in the ceiling and there are vents outside but nothing worth showing

Yup, it's just a hot tank, NOT a boiler.  The switches are in the correct position (assuming they're labelled correctly) if the bottom heater is on an E7 overnight supply.
But the BIG question remains unanswered - what do you use for room heating?

And your meter and associated equipment ?

Holes and vents - a warm air system ?
