I have the same problems in Lid! and often have to log into my account on the app at the checkout which is very frustrating. I now turn on my data before entering the store which so far has worked well. I’ve been stocking up on the jars of chickpeas too, they’re really good value.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

I'm getting the problem even with my data on, @Sun_Addict. The building just seems to block the signal. I think the way past it may be to load any offers you want, activate the 'card' after you've done that (assuming the details are then on your account), screenshot the app after doing this and have the screenshot ready at the till in case the live QR code dies on you. You can get round the loss of signal to the card by giving your phone number (but I'm never sure how secure this is in a public place) but I don't think that adds the activated offers.

Hope we get an Aldi... (evil grin).

I neglected to mention yesterday that DH sent off various 1st and 2nd class stamps a while ago to get the current versions. I think it was £17+'s worth in 'old money', i.e. what they originally cost. They arrived yesterday, all shiny, new and big! So much bigger than they used to be, and with an adjacent barcode. Are we supposed to attach the bar code when we stamp the letter?

The other news is: I have an interview for the admin job. I'm immediately nervous but I think part of that is the whole thing about going into the unknown. It's next week so I have to select a time on a day when I already have something new happening due to the Wednesday job (there's a thing a bit like a trade fair, so the manager and I are going along to represent our work). It's very local so travel time isn't a problem, but I need to check how long I'll be required.

And today, it's raining again and if I'm not careful I'll waste the day, which is never a good thing. Last night I read through the first few pages of the Maths book and it all made sense so far. I think, as I'm indoors, I could do with pushing on a bit with that.

Ever since I saw these new stamps I have been firmly of the opinion that the royal head on them is only to let the user know whether they are using first or second class post & is really irrelevant to the royal mail.  However if we remove the picture then the recipient will have no idea if they can complain about how long it has taken to arrive.  I suspect in time we will be told to just put the bar code on post.  The only reason for the bulk of the stamp is to enable them to keep the word royal in their name despite it no longer being even remotely relevant.

I'm getting over the shock element of getting an interview and starting to feel it might be for me. No guarantees of course.

I've been indoors most of the day though the rain slackened off eventually. I was wasting time on a computer game so I made myself do more constructive things for a while: I rang IT and they've sorted out my work laptop, leaving me with 234 emails to check through. I dropped a line to my teaching assistant manager to tell her I'm reachable through this email again (Implied: do you have any work for me? :) ) and another to the senior manager of the cleaning team to acknowledge one from her.

I've yet to book my interview time, must get onto that in the morning.

Feeling that all this sitting down does me no good, I finally started to rearrange DS2's old room, moving the unsorted boxes (mine), cleaning along that area and putting the little table I retrieved from my parents' house by the window. The aim is to put my sewing machine on it so I can finally learn to sew. The bed's now completely covered in various things that need to be put somewhere else, but the window side of the room looks much better.

I had to stop that activity as time was passing. Dinner was chicken and chorizo pasta followed by spiced bread pudding, which both used up various odds and ends. I had oven space to spare so I baked all the larger potatoes from the bag we bought the other day and those are now in the freezer. I also filled a big pyrex with the smallest of the fallen apples and baked those for DH to have as puddings when the baked pudding is finished.

This evening was the fortnightly church group but people were going down with infections left, right and centre so only three of us met but it was still a nice evening. A friend gave me a lift home so while I didn't get any exercise, I did avoid getting wet.

Tomorrow I need to make the interview appointment and get some food shopping, the latter despite having spent quite a bit on it already this week. Continued work on the garden and DS2's old room would both be useful, too - as would the studies I've been avoiding today, and a spot of ironing.

The weirdest thing to start with this morning: I woke about 6.20 and couldn't get back to sleep. Last night our internet went off so I went down to try to reset it (successfully, no idea why it did that) and checked the BBC weather. Apparently we are in the midst of a hurricane?! It goes on for 48 hours... but apart from a slight breeze in the tree top, that's not how it looks out the window, or what the radio forecaster is saying.

I sent a screenshot to a friend who works in forecasting. Might amuse her?

Meanwhile there's a hot wash in the machine to try to use cheaper power.
