One of these days it will give up but the way things are going it may outlast me!
That's quite a nice thought in a way - the continuity of it. I found a dress my Mum had worn in the fifties when I was in the loft. Still wearable.

This evening I'm tired: I waited in for the delivery of the log store but didn't bother waiting for the duvet cover. It's in the post so it will come when it's ready. Meanwhile the flat packs for the log store need to go in the garage till we have a free day.

The washing has been done and mostly dried outside, and the weather has been quite mild and nice. I walked down to the Wednesday job and pushed on a bit with some admin but didn't get any clients. On the way home I bumped into an old friend so we had a catch up, then a neighbour was sweeping around the hole in the road, so I stopped there and got more information about the power outage. It's a very odd pattern of houses either side of the street that was affected. I'm trying to think who else I met but it really was a day for bumping into people, just when I needed to be back to phone my client.

Phone call done, there was a chicken chasseur to put int he slow cooker for dinner, another omelette for lunch and some down time before work. This evening I needed to pick up my prescription but there was only one person trying to run the pharmacy and the doctors had only just sent it through (after about 5 or 6 days) so I felt sorry for her and said I'd get it made up elsewhere (this pharmacy doesn't have a dispensing person tomorrow). So it sounds as if the whole system is struggling to keep up, at least here. I've also collected some shopping, about £12.

    Now I need sleep!

Whoops I've just realised that could have sounded quite depressing.  It wasn't meant to be.  I really think the way it is going it could do another 50 years & even I don't think I can last to 128.  Going to may a darned good try though.  Like me though it is a little paler than when I first got it.

:D Don't see why you shouldn't celebrate 128 years, @badmemory - admittedly not many people do, but that doesn't mean to say you can't try!

Today has started with beautiful sunlight through a light mist, a perfect Autumn day and it's going to be up to about the mid teens, temperature-wise. Lovely.

I've already got involved with a  conversation about fire safety routes for the little kids: I hope that can be sorted out easily but I've taken it as far as I can. Still to do on that front: the prep for this coming Sunday, though I don't think that will be too long a job. I have DH's presents to wrap, a card to buy, my prescription to pick up and work this evening. I've also got the job application to approach: it's looking like I go for it because that's how to find out if it's right for me.

DH's annual leave bookings for next financial year are open, and he's suggested Rome again which could be a good one as we feel there's still so much to see. My manager tells me they've changed the system for relief staff so we now don't get any choice about getting paid for accrued leave on a month by month basis (used to be able to save it up and take it as pay in lean times). Until I know whether I will be getting more paid work, I'll be leaving it in that account so there's a buffer against lean months.

Which reminds me, I've been putting off checking emails from that employer as I didn't seem to be getting any incoming, so I need to sort that as I think there's an overdue update, and do a refresher course. I've also got to write up for yesterday's client, so really, why am I sitting here pretending its a lazy day?

P.S. Oh, and the house is a shambles...

Oh what a day! I deep cleaned the bathroom, which is progress in the right direction, but after that things went a bit south.

I got a partial reply about the fire safety, leaving me with something more to delve into.

No further work done on Sunday's session.

I did a long writeup for yesterday's client.

I tried to ring IT to sort out the email problem but was directed through the options to one where I have to log on and report it that way. That's no help when the problem is that part of the system won't let me log on. DH has now advised me to choose the phone option for people who can't work because of their IT issue. I had heard this as 'people who can't work' and thought it meant by reason of sickness or similar, but it makes sense to use it. It could be anything preventing me working and I can't tell if I'm missing relief work because my emails aren't updating. Of course DH is right and they aren't going to ignore a call from someone who is unable to engage with the job they're supposed to be doing!

While I was out I popped into Sains as there were some expiring offers I wanted. I used the self-scanning thing but one item refused to scan for me or a shop assistant so I went to put it through the till manually when my self-scanned shop was selected for one of their random checks. (It says it's to make sure I've not overcharged myself but we all know it's in case I'm nicking stuff!) This meant a shop assistant had to check through my shopping and do the battle of the unscannable packet of chillis herself. You can imagine all this took a few minutes and I don't have a problem with it, but things conspired to make me later and later.

I have wrapping paper but no card: just didn't see anything I liked, and wished I'd bought some I saw while we were out a while ago. I took my prescription to another chemist but they told me it wasn't on 'the spine' which is apparently their programme telling them the same thing as we get on our written prescriptions. I explained that last night's pharmacist had tried to put it on but was met with an unfamiliar form. Today's pharmacy tried to ring yesterday's pharmacy, but they weren't picking up so I went round there to see if they could rectify it. Cue a bit of a wait while the locum person talked to the other chemist and tried to track it down. She was as helpful as could be but it the end had to request a repeat from the GP. I explained I had get a move on and could I call back later? In the end DH went while I was working, and the GP hadn't sent the emergency prescription, so tomorrow will be the second day without my most basic medication. It's a good job I know I am allowed a few days without in an emergency.

Anyway, this meant I was running late and only just got to work in time, taking a snack and a drink in place of tea. I think I was probably dehydrated by then, but I've tried to make up for that since.

Work was two runs instead of one but one was the area I did yesterday and I knew I'd left it in good order so there was less to do. Absolutely shattered by the time I got in, but at least I'd bought myself a custard slice to restore my energy and give myself a treat!

I have my doubts that this job application is going to get anywhere: I'm so tired now, how would I cope if I were working more hours? Mind you, it's not every day I'm trekking up and down the High Street in search of medication, so that's not helped.

    Expenditure:
    Housekeeping £4.10

I made Mr E order his repeat prescriptions a few days earlier each time until he had a good week or ten days in hand. He also now carries two doses of each in his bag, so if ever we are unexpectedly away, ie car breaks down, he has them with him (those doses replaced every six months when the clocks change).

I think I will copy your idea @Laura_Elsewhere. I order about a week before mine are due but that wasn't enough this time so I'll try to work it back a bit.

One nice hot bath later, I feel slightly more together. A hot chocolate and a crumpet with strawberry jam have also helped.

I went into a website where there's a copy of my CV and got distracted looking at the latest job: one where I'm working at present with a steady ten hours a week, and three or four where I used to work. I'm not even tempted to those now, though regular hours in my present job would be useful.

I've also tracked down and updated my CV, so there's still potential to send it in with the required covering letter in the morning, just inside the deadline.
