This morning it was chilly and misty out of doors, a complete contrast from yesterday.
I’ve finally tackled two very small sewing jobs that I brought with me, one of which was the tiny hole in the cashmere jumper. I’m pleased to say it’s totally invisible from the outside now (but it was tiny to start with). I checked the charity shops again, just in case, and bought one of those hand held pressure washers for all of £3. I’d been looking online for one and they are around £15 for a cheaper on, so this is worth a punt. The bits of paving outside our front and back doors could look a lot better than they do at present.
There is the most amazing hardware shop here so I couldn’t not visit but for once didn’t buy a thing, though I discovered the Co-op does lime-scented bleach and got some of that. I’ve obviously been influenced by the lessons on Duolingo where they go on about useless souvenirs. 😄. (I wonder why the plural for ‘souvenir’ in Italian s also ‘souvenir’?)
The sun came out after lunch (another fruity porridge, cappuccino and some of DH’s Victoria sponge for me) so DH is going for a walk and I’m just chilling in the house. This ‘going away for a break’ business is tiring.
Expenditure yesterday:
Travel £19.30
Entertainment/food/housekeeping £10.25 + approx £10 coffee/tea/lush chocolate and almond cake.
Today:
Garden £3
Housekeeping 90pI think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Another two bits of sewing are done, and that’s all I brought with me. It was too nice to stay in so I went in the garden and picked apples (with permission). We’ve left some with a neighbour but there are still a lot on the trees that aren’t ripe yet. DH went for a walk and found a view, and he’s also finished setting up H’s old phone that she gave him.
I think a relaxing day was a good call today. I’m still tired and we head home tomorrow after which DH is going to collect his long-awaited car which is two more long journeys. I have sent off the habitual texts preparatory to Sunday’s children’s session and told work my availability for next week, so I can leave those things to run.
We’ve finished up the curry and soups we brought with us - and yogurt from the end of July! Only opened recently though.
So for the rest of the evening I can either work out where I’m up to on a knitted rabbit started a year or so ago, or I can find a crochet pattern to reuse the beautiful, garish yarn I’ve just unravelled.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We are home now: a fairly straightforward journey though I dozed on the way to make up for waking a few times overnight with a raging sore throat. I suspect the visit to the charity shop early in the week was the culprit as, when I went back later, both the staff had developed hacking coughs.

The sore throat continues to rage: it's an unbecoming shade of red and stabs me when I swallow.
Other than that and resulting tiredness I feel absolutely normal, which is really odd. Normally sore throats go on to other symptoms, don't they? This one led to a few isolated sneezes but so far that's all.
DH set off on his car-acquisition journey at dawn this morning: it's the other end of the country so he has a train journey then is driving back on the A roads as he doesn't want to be belting along the motorway in a fifty-year-old vehicle - that's if all is in order when he meets the seller. He's done his homework though and it seems to be just what he wants.
Meanwhile I have started the holiday laundry and have some bits of shopping to get where stocks have run down.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Oh, Jedburgh, Melrose and Edinburgh sound like a great trip- but what a shame you've brought back a lurgied throat!
I used to have terrible razorblade-y throats every winter, and my top tip is to mix together butter and honey in equal measures (or butter and sugar if you don't have honey), and just put it in a little dish with a teaspoon or even a tiny saltspoon, and just keep on letting a little lump of it melt at the back of your tongue, so it slithers down your throat- the honey is soothing, of course, but the butter helps to coat the throat. Best if you try not to drink or eat immediately after, as that washes it away- but if you're drowing or reading or just curled up with an audiobook, then butter-and-honey is a real godsend for stabby-swallowy throats, ime!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
