Thank you, I will do just that! It won't be tonight as I need some sleep, and also need to mull over what co-pilot came up with - not rocket science but a basic rearrangement that gave me pause for thought.WelshmansDaughter said:Rhyddid2026 said:Drop me a message Cherry and we'll figure out if/how I can be helpful.
The MSE one might be made to do that. The trouble is it makes me do my homework first! I've started to list DDs and SOs to feed into it. I looked at the Excel ones and didn't find one that worked for me, but I could look more thoroughly now I'm starting to gather ideas. They do also have pre made templates in excel where you can drop your figures in. Or something like notion where you can pick a templateI think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well, Sunday was about as wet and windy as any. We went to church in the morning: I was helping with the little ones and we had a great time. It was one of the leaders' birthdays and he was in high spirits. He's very good at winding the children up and they love him so when the service ran on a bit and we had finished the prepared activities, there was a lot of hilarity and high spirits.
There wasn't even much clearing up to do (there's always plenty when I lead), but we managed to jam the lock on the store cupboard so I've that to sort during the week.
DH gave me a lift home then went to his lunch. I just had a lazy afternoon. Dinner was liver and bacon again so I need to find things to balance that out during the week.
Nothing spent. The wind has dropped now, tomorrow should feel warm as it's gone from freezing yesterday to 5 degrees today and 10 tomorrow. Looking forward to that.
Not much planning to do for the week ahead: Tuesday is child care, Wednesday I've an appointment and Thursday I've a class. Friday may be the day I do my slot on the church cleaning rota, depending on the weather.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Ohhh a course on Excel?? How would I find that??
I keep thinking I should be able to work it out but never have so I could make that something I could learn this year!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

The ones I've seen are available to the right of the blank workbook if you open Excel - might depend on your computer of course. I did make a start on one but to me it was dry theory and a bit of an uphill struggle - it generally helps me to have someone around to talk things through and reinforce them, whereas this was solid brainwork before you get to the bits where you actually do something. At least that's my impression a couple of years later. However, the info is there for the determined!Watty1 said:Ohhh a course on Excel?? How would I find that??

The one I had to pull out of (due to changes in timing) was run by the Council. These are means tested but free for some people. The teachers here are excellent.
I've got a few things done so far today, nothing dramatic. Yes, it's milder outside but it's grey so I don't feel the call of the wild! However, I've washed some jumpers and there's now a load of towels nearly finished. I decided to go for a run but when I looked for a warm-up video, the sound on the TV was stuck far too loud and the control wasn't working. I spent some time cleaning it but dropped the needle I was using. I thought it had gone in the toy box so I emptied it out and got everything back without finding the needle. Then it turned up stuck in the carpet.
Eventually I got the remote working again, though I think we may need a new one. By then I was hungry, so I just did a five minute video rather than a run. Lunch was hummus on crackers, another Eccles cake and a ginger latte. Then, having got the cleaning keyboards started, I did both the laptops and the mice.
I'm struggling for motivation so I'm going to make myself accountable for handwashing a sequinned Christmas jumper ready to pack away and tidying up after some bird dug up an astilbe. I suspect the blackbirds when things like that happen. And then there's the ironing... (sigh).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Excel has lots of templates including one called Basic personal budget. It is under the "personal" section of templates which shows if you go to open or create a file.
I can't work out how to share it on here but if I can I will do so.
It looks like this - but as a spreadsheet & has all the formulas in it already.Declutter 2024 :277

Thank you @time2change_2 - I think I've found the one. It wasn't on the first page so I'd assumed there were only tutorials as that's how it starts. I will have a look and see if I can adapt it to track categories - but again, not tonight and not tomorrow either as the time is already claimed. I don't think it can be shared without downloading so I really appreciate that you've gone to all the trouble of typing it out.
I can change the dollars to £s easily enough: the thing to look at is whether I can add my categorised expenditure and get it to take that away from income - but at the moment scrap paper and pen sound inviting! However, I will not be a dinosaur. I will acquire computer knowledge (though it would be easier if the goal posts weren't always walking off into the distance).
Well, I made something of the afternoon. The second load of washing went on the line, the ironing board came out and I started on some listening while I ironed. Then the rain began so the washing came in and onto the airer and I had another go at the ironing. It took much time and effort but now it's done, a stain has been taken out of a shirt and everything that's dry enough has been put away.
I had to break the ironing into several goes as there were two emails that needed to be sent, then I collected another V1nted parcel (socks for DH, as I gave in and threw out some of his that kept going into holes). I had a free pastry to collect from L1dl and we needed more frozen berries too. After sorting out the toy box, I also bought a box for some of the small toys that are spilling out, and some cake sprinkles which I thought were covered by a 15% discount, but it turns out not all of them are included. I was going to take them back but decided for the sake of 30p, I'd keep them. At least if we have to bake for some occasion again, I will have in-date ones to add to whatever cake is made!

I've got an excel workbook with different tabs. I don't have complicated formulas in it. One of the tabs lists all the bills going out that month and the total. Then underneath I list everything going out including planned savings, the bills total and various spending pots. Everything adds up at the bottom then I update how much is in the current account. The balance at the bottom is anything left over after all that. As the direct debits for the bills go out I update the cell so the bit at the bottom is automatically updated.
Then I have a separate sheet for weekly spends with the budget amount at the bottom and a row showing how much is left. At the end of every week the spends for that week are moved into another sheet called monthly spends and the weekly spends sheet is cleared ready for the next week's spends. I then update remaining balances in the first tab.
I've also got lots of other tabs for holidays, sinking funds, savings, etc.
That system works for me. Nothing complicated or fancy but then I work with spreadsheets as part of my job so appreciate it may not be as simple for everyone. I update it almost every day to keep on top of it.
Might be worth investigating U Tube to look for ideas/tutorials.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2 -
You should be able to add your categories - if you add them in between other lines it should amend the formulas.
Feel free to PM me if I can help.Declutter 2024 :277
