Tuesday was child care day as usual - I didn't join in till noon as the cold has got to the very blocked up stage where things take more energy. Thankful for DH holding the fort! The usual toddler activity has been moved for a couple of weeks due to a Christmas tree festival (must remember to go and see that) and the girls didn't want to go to the library. DH got them out on their scooters but cut it short as it was making F cough. In fact she didn't want lunch and eventually fell asleep, being woken from time to time with coughing. She wouldn't take medication (put off by the stuff she had to have in hospital) but eventually fell asleep properly so the rest of us were tiptoeing round and I was trying to stay clear as she doesn't want another infection on top of what she's already had. When she woke up, however, she was willing to eat again.
DH heated up some of yesterday's curry for tea and I had the rest of the frozen mash with mine. I'm determined to get through some of the freezer contents! Afterwards I was so tired I went to bed at half past seven and slept till 10. I've been awake since: tidied the kitchen and had a bath so I'm about read yto sleep again.
Yesterday's Am4zon order arrived today - I'm impressed! Must get the CC paid off in the morning.
I've called off tomorrow's shopping trip with J and rearranged it for Monday. There's no point giving them my cold and being sub-par myself, and if I can rest instead, I'll be better for work on Thursday.

I woke up early with an aching face and have spent the morning trying to reduce what I suspect is inflammation. I've had a bit of success and tried going into the garden to refill the bird food as it's glorious out, and I thought the fresh air would clear it. However, it set off a bout of sneezing so I suspect it's time to stay in.
There's a parcel to collect, though, so I will go out later. DH has already been out, firstly to get his Secret Santa, then to get me some menthol sweets (boy, they are strong!)
I'm determined to get some things done so I washed my hair and took some things out of the freezer to defrost, and a load of laundry is nearly ready to go out in the sunshine. I've paid the credit card up to date too. Next up is getting through some of the backlog of receipts that are littering my computer space.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. The receipts didn't get done but the laundry is ironed and hanging up to air. DH has rung the boiler company and sorted out for them to service it, which is now overdue but at least we've spoken to them. He made tuna pasta for tea which used peppers from the freezer - I am closer to knowing what's in there and using up some more.
DGD started the day by going to nursery - her choice, as much as a two year old can choose - but was sick in the afternoon and has had to come home. We aren't able to help with child care over the next couple of days so I'm having to leave them to it. I've called in sick for work tomorrow: I think I've improved since this morning but I have violent bouts of sneezing, breathing isn't good and my balance is a bit dodgy. Not how I want to be if I've a walk/bus journey/other walk followed by a couple of hours of close proximity to a student. I was hoping having the day off today would have got me past this point but I'm going to need at least tomorrow.
I did manage a walk out with DH to collect the parcels. It was bitter and I came straight home rather than going to the shops, but it's always better if I can get out of the house. When I got back, I emptied the compost bucket into the proper compost and added the contents of a hanging basket, so you could say I've done a bit for the garden.
DH was out this evening and I dozed on the sofa, which is probably the reason I'm still awake now, but I need to get to bed. Nothing spent today, at least not by me.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hope you feel better soon. I think you need a well deserved rest you fit so much into the day.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Thank you one and all! I have done a good bit of resting today, and I'm glad of it. About lunch time I realised my breathing had cleared up but by two o'clock I needed to sleep, so I spent the afternoon in bed. Since then I've been much better apart from explosive sneezing, and even that has decreased.
I've been at home all day and managed just a small bit of housework. DH was at work so he picked up a few bits from the supermarket but dinner was most of the remaining curry from the other day. I've cut up some avocados and put them in the freezer so there's still not a lot of space, but I keep on putting more berries out for breakfast which is at least healthy for us.
Various family messages are making me feel we are dropping like flies! After F's illness last week, she's on two days off nursery as she was sick, then this afternoon N was sent home with a temperature which has turned into a cough. Then I had a message from J to ask if I could go over tomorrow as she has gone down with what she thinks may be food poisoning and needs help with the baby. L can't work from home tomorrow. I still feel quite washed out but have said I'll work tomorrow evening, and was having qualms about a train journey followed by a 45 minute walk to get to theirs, followed by a day of child care and another walk/train journey before my shift. DH has suggested they bring J over very early if she's no better as I'm fine for them to be here. We are going to see how she feels but she may be here when I get up.
In the interests of being Christmassy, I got out Dad's carol music, which is a very simple book, and played some old favourites. I've slid back a long way in my piano playing so I was glad I could still manage these, and I always think of Dad when I do. He gave up his lessons because he couldn't practice without waking us when we were small, so I think one of my reasons for learning was to try to make that up to him.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Oh that’s lovely to play the carols in memory of your dad. Takes me back to the days of carol singing door to door as a child. I was in a choir so sang fairly well (I hope 😬) We gave a decent rendition at the door before knocking and used to make a fair amount. Another tradition gone…I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

I hope it hasn't gone - though I was rather startled to realise Christmas pop songs may be taking the place of traditional carols as history moves on. I remember going with some younger friends when I'd just turned 18 and taking very seriously the fact that I was the adult and could be held responsible. They all behaved themselves, though, and we raised some money. I remember two houses in particular: one was quite well off and the chap came to the door talking on his phone and dug in his pocket for some change, still talking. I felt we had intruded and almost as though I should apologise. The other was an older couple at the other end of the village who came to the door and listened with evident pleasure. I felt the money they gave was worth a whole lot more than that other contribution, and it was probably a bigger proportion of their income, whatever amount it was.
Funny that I remember so much from that evening, it must have been 1981!
DD didn't come round today as she's feeling a bit better. She's now wondering if it was gastric flu.
I am sure I did something with the earlier part of today, but I don't really know what. I got my act together to collect a parcel just before work (not opened yet) and the wind was bitterly cold. I was glad of a duvet coat, gloves, hoodie and scarf and that I'd planned ahead when I got them. They're all old but lovely and warm.
Work was three hours to cover two 'runs' as there just weren't enough staff. Six of the team are off and nine of us had the whole complex to cover. One of my areas was one I'd never done before so I spent quite a bit of time double-checking which way I needed to turn and whether I could find any more litter bins. DH texted to offer me a lift which made him late for choir but by then the rain was lashing down and there was a high wind. He gave a colleague a lift into town as well (and he enjoyed his choir practice).
I've finished up the soup I made on Monday, with some cooked beetroot cubes on top. That looked rather good! It wasn't a designer move: I am trying to use up bits from the freezer which reminds me, I must get salmon, liver and bacon out before bed.
No shopping today.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
