your diary puts me to shame - such activity - wanders outMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
LOL... but @Watty1, too much activity! I'm looking for a way to cut down. Possibly more than one way!
Today I'm off to help with toddler club this morning then I need to come back here and make myself accountable for housework before heading to work for 5. Meanwhile the men are digging our new soakaway.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

The toddler club went nicely, and I got chatting to one of the mums afterwards to the extent that I forgot about having to spend the afternoon cleaning and tidying... oops. I also got chatting to one of the Grandmothers and it wasn't till she dropped her husband's name into the conversation that I realised I used to know her, not just slightly but quite well! I wonder if she noticed?
I did my usual 'popping into the shops' on the way home and picked up half a dozen pieces of salmon for just over £4, but I've wrapped them individually and frozen them as DH had the rest of the chicken for dinner and I had lunch and dinner out of one frozen pizza - I was getting tired of them taking up so much freezer space and it was delicious.
I made a task list and got started eventually, but apart from tidying a few sundries, all I managed was cleaning one side of the kitchen. Very nice. Now if our friends decide to look down the back of the microwave, I won't be blushing. On the other hand, almost anywhere else and it might be a case of turning down the lights or suggesting we all go for a walk in the rain. Yes, most of the rest of the house is still looking lived in. DH dusted the cobwebs away but we are both tired so we'll see what we can do tomorrow. DH says they are coming to see us not the house. Bless him.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. If they are friends, then they don't care about the house, they care about you!
Many moons ago my dearest friend was returning to work after maternity leave & I volunteered to look after baba boy as his first babysitter (I had just resigned from a job to move here!) Her house was 'lived in' but it didn't matter, baby cuddles were most important & I folded her two baskets of laundry while he had a nap. In the grand scheme of things, baba grew up and is now a young man of 19 years old and I'm hoping he still loves a cuddle from his favorite auntie! The state of the house, well that was 3 houses ago & who really cares???4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 15 YEARS 2 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 13 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!1 -
Ah, that's a sweet story @rtandon27! You are right, I need to focus on making them welcome not on the 'perfect' house (which it never is anyway).
We seem to have lost all our pens again, yet it's not long since I raided the car and brought in a handful. Where do they all go? I found one in a laptop bag and am using that. Another, from a forgotten pen pot, doesn't work. Having got rid of 16 defunct pens, seven pen-less pen lids and 37 batteries to recycling this week, I already have a new collection awaiting disposal.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. It's a long standing joke between me and my best friend about the cobwebs in my house! I told her that if she's bothered she can do a "high hoover" when she's here... she sent me a duster in the post! All meant in good spirit though! I prefer a "home" to a "show home" and if it looks lived in, it's because I've prioritised other things in life! That said, I can feel myself being extra tidy this week as we are having friends over for a BBQ on Monday!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £6,890.00
Total paid off - £8,710.89 (55% paid off)2 -
Having a single spider is a good thing. It gets rid of the flies & then eventually leaves itself because it has scared everything else away.2

Melt down morning! So hard to motivate myself because the house is too big a job, then DH melting down because he focusses on one task and I felt I had to be dressed and 'war ready' before making a start. Anyway we sorted that out. I am now out of pyjamas and into war paint.
We've cleared a lot of my junk from the guest room and had a quick clean round (junk now in loft, DD's old room and our room, with plant pots and seeds in the garage). DH has now gone to do part one of the church cleaning for me.
I'm having a drink and biscuit break before finishing cleaning the bathroom then DH is back here for lunch and we will regroup. It's all complicated by the workmen not arriving till later (which we were told about two days ago) and waiting for a delivery that will only deliver if they have a signature. So I might as well get on with the cleaning at home so at least I can field callers. I'm going to have one of those immune boosting teas for my drink, I think - won't hurt!
Some small bits of junk have actually left the house - but very small. I also found the bag of bras so they can go to the bra bank on Tuesday. So that's all this week's recycling goals near-enough achieved apart from the Boots stuff which was always a possible carry-over.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

However I did read somewhere on these boards that spiders in webs are usually female and stay put for months on end while wandering spiders are male. We have both... this doesn't portend well for the autumn but the trusty 'lifesaver' is still doing a good job.
