Ah sorry I meant that I have a box at home for work stuff
Oh I get it now - sorry! Takes me right back to being a keyworker in lockdown where we were told to have a box to dump our work stuff in - some people even got undressed on the doorstep rather than risk bringing infection in. I remember showering and washing my hair after every shift - DH had to stay out of the way till I'd shoved my work clothes in the washing machine and was personally laundered!

My work things, as I mentioned, are just in a bag now, and a smallish one that basically holds several pairs of washing up gloves (colour coded for the type of job), a snack and a drink, because it's thirsty work. So, similar to you, I have somewhere to corral the clutter.  All the cleaning equipment and chemicals is stored at work so there's none of that to carry round.

I thought of an alternative to counting sheep to get myself to sleep: counting wash basins at work! There must be dozens... usually ten to thirteen cleaners on an evening shift with an average around 10 basins each... enough to send anyone to sleep.

And on that thrilling note: today.

Today: DH has the day off and has taken the hobby car to the garage to have something done to the carburettor. I need to get dressed soon as someone is coming round to measure the (odd shaped) kitchen for flooring, and at the moment I am not in the least ready. Later I'm doing church cleaning though a reduced version as part of the building is being decorated, then later I have paid work.

Last night I made the mistake of opening the paperwork I need to have completed today for the course tomorrow. Thankfully I got one piece done before DGD fell poorly, but there are still two to complete: self assessment on our approach to various things. This turned out to be a bit of a trigger, as it reminds me strongly of a so-called team day at the previous job. I therefore went to bed with those on my mind, though I've talked myself down from my initial distrust and fight or flight. I did, however, dream I had to leave a building via a sort of scaffolding network over a cliff and froze... so perhaps there are anxieties related to this and a certain fire drill that I know is about to take place!

Tomorrow is the first day of the course and means an early start (not my best thing) with breakfast provided. That's not my ideal but can be done, and most of the sessions will be evening which is much more manageable for me. Sunday is not too heavy in terms of personal stuff but I'm supporting someone who's not led the session before and then there's that fire drill... Looking forward to Monday when I'm not responsible for ANYTHING.

A and H and the girls are away to spend time with her family this weekend and H isn't at work today, so no child care for me, talking of which, J is 29 weeks with the next DGD now. All going well and seems to be approaching at speed! I still haven't decided what gift to take to her baby shower and she doesn't know about it so I can't ask her.

Right, I need to get dressed and enlist DH's help with that paperwork.

The day has passed in reasonable sanity, apart from the printer being convinced it had no paper. Talking it round was something like the Father Ted sketch about cows but we got there in the end. DH went through the questionnaire with me, which made it a lot easier. However, the one I completed earlier in the week and submitted appears to have sunk without trace as I forgot to save a copy, so I'm going to have a look at that again before bed.

Church cleaning was okay this lunchtime: the decorators were in full swing so we had less to do. This evening was three hours at paid work, and some nice sunset photos at the beginning. Meanwhile DH went to help with the church decorating: I've no idea how late they will have work to get it ready for Sunday, but I think they'll do it.

    Nothing bought again today.

I got up early and made it to the meet-up for about 10 to 8, and we were at the venue in good time. Four of us are car-sharing so I've said I'll contribute to the petrol but I don't yet know how much.

The day itself was excellent, I needn't have worried at all. Well structured, well led, interesting and relevant. Also nice food (breakfast was fresh fruit, yogurts, croissants or pain chocolat, lunch was a good sandwich board, large cookies, crisps and fruit). I had layers on as you never know what the heating's going to be like, and ended up lending a coat to my friend. It's just as well we're old friends and she's utterly trustworthy as I didn't think and had left my phone, credit card, house keys and someone else's keys in the pockets. :D

Anyway I think we all really enjoyed the training. My friend went for a lunch time walk and, being a history buff, was fascinated by local buildings.

On the way back I bought some stationery to help keep bits and pieces together though I did the MSE thing of reusing a file I already had and the course gift bag had (course official) notebook, pen and reusable cup. Two of my friends decided to donate theirs back, one because she already had plenty of cups and another because it was plastic and she tries to use environmentally friendly. I do think reusable cups have been overdone now but this one was the right size for me so I kept it.

It's absolutely bitter cold out tonight and we thought about lighting the fire but we are saving that for tomorrow and making do with central heating for now.

I also put the laundry ready to wash last night and set it off first thing so that's clean, though not dry.

    Expenditure:
Housekeeping: not sure. Fish and chips will have been about £10.
    Stationery: £3.64.

Hoping the busy days are done at least till Tuesday!

This morning's fire alarm went okay, in fact in many ways better than it might have, but there were lots of lessons to learn. The only thing I can action is a grab bag for parents to put their children's coats in, so if we have to evacuate, that can come out with us and they can have the coats on outside. Today was bitterly cold so I felt for the ones who weren't dressed for it. Anyway, the important thing was that everyone seems to have got out quickly and safely (and there wasn't a real fire).

We had gammon with baked potatoes and veg for our main meal: there's a bit of cooked gammon left but I'll put it in the freezer. I had a very quiet afternoon and went back to bed for a bit but DH has been much more productive and fixed the new (very tall) bookcase to the wall for safety. It's also over a load-bearing wall now so the weight of the books shouldn't be a problem.

My friend has been asked to work yet again on Tuesday and thinks it's looking like a permanent arrangement. :( I'm not prepared to let our little group go, though, so I've suggested a way of keeping our 'studies' going on the back burner, while another friend has booked for us to have a meal out. I've also suggested a day or half day weekend trip once the weather warms up.

Nothing more to report today, and nothing spent.

Glad the fire alarm rehearsal went smoothly. My dad was a firefighter and was a keen advocate of being prepared. It literally saves lives.

That's a great idea - at work we have been trained to have a 'bug-out-bag' & where possible to put your coat on or carry it before leaving.  The thought is 'if you could not get back in, what would you need to keep yourself safe.'

I can't claim to be as well prepared at home though I know where the fire extinguisher is, and the smoke alarms and CO detectors are working.

That's a very good idea - so perhaps I could encourage adults to put their coats and bags in it too? So long as it doesn't get so bulky that it gets in the way! I got the idea from when I worked in adult care and the bag there had emergency phone numbers for people's families, a torch, high vis tabards and a pack of Pringles, because there was one person who adored them and would follow a packet of them into unknown territory!

It's been a grey day but the rain is so fine I didn't realise it's raining till the water started to run down the step, very slowly.

I have a  quiet day so I've played on the computer and caught up on the bitty items of laundry and one load of darks. Things are on the airer or hanging in doorways. A chap came round trying to interest us in cheaper broadband so I've said he can come back when DH is in. We are actively considering changing and a lot of work has been happening to get our little corner of the world up to the spec of most of the rest of the town, so options are opening out.

Lunch was cheesy, herby scrambled egg, which was yummy, followed by (too many) banana and blueberry muffins.

Right, I have some rota rejigging to do.

I was going to say I wish you hadn't mentioned fire extinguishers, but am actually glad you did as it is something you tend not to think of until you need it.  I have smoke alarms & co2 monitors & used to have an extinguisher.  I have no idea where it is.  It used to be right there, where it was most likely needed like the torches are.  Where on earth do you buy fire extinguishers.
