  • @Clutterbug07 the nail colours I "adopted" are all typical Autumnal colours in various shades of red although ive just used one called Toying Wirh Trouble which is a bright pink. Just repainted my nails and am wearing Orly Unravelling Story which I love.
Autumnal colours are lush!  I do love a grey too, think it looks fab on the nails- I googled the Orly one you mention, so pretty!  A grey is one of the colours I love, and along with a bright pink, is a potential for one of my 4-5 polishes this year as I got rid of my one true grey the other year as it had really 'meh' formula, and I do miss having one.

One lil UU over the weekend

    Two mostly used Regaine out.

I've given it 6 months.    I hate using it, it just reminds me how much loss there is and there is no sign of regrowth and around Christmas I just stopped. Apparently it should be tried for 3 to 6 months. I've given it that.   My hair is currently tied up.  Hair fibres to me just seem like make  up so I'm ok with using them and that and tying it up isn't so bad until I can sort out toppers and wigs.

@Clutterbug07 Unravelling Story reminds me of an old Sephora by OPI colour called Break a Leg Warmer which ive been looking for a dupe of for ages.  I want to pan that one this year because its got to be over 10 years old

  • Hi ... you're all doing fantastically already this year ... I thought I posted last night but it's disappeared, wanted to come along and say please can I join in for 2024?  :#

I have lots of toiletries, mostly kindly gifted to me across Christmases and birthdays in recent years, and I'm just not making a dent in them! Although this means I don't actually buy much in the way of toiletries, I do need to be more in the habit of 'shopping from home' when we do run out of things, rather than adding to the shopping list.

I'd also like to make the most of advice on these threads about 're-assigning' toiletries for alternative use to what the tub / pot / sachet says. EG: I have lots of foot cream (gifted) which I only use in the summer really, so in my mind, this is just super-intensive moisturiser that I can just slather everywhere? Another example is creme bubble bath - I only have a shower but have diluted this and used as a handwash / shower creme before now.

I'd also like to include beauty products because although I have lots (again gifts) I tend not to bother. However, another aim in 2024 is to show myself a bit more self-care, so if I include some beauty bits in that then I'm meeting two goals in one!

My goal is to shift an item a week, so 52 items in 52 weeks, either through use ups - including reassigning - or regifting, passing on.

So far this year I'm on track and have used up an Avon Shower Creme (Lily of the Valley); 1 old favourite Rimmell lipstick, retrieved from an even older handbag; 1 x SpaceMasks eye mask so 3 / 52.

This week I'm working my way through a Sanctuary Body Scrub - had forgotten how lovely Sanctuary products smell.

Thank you for having me, SaR x

Welcome @ShyAndRetiring    I made a huge dent in the "stash" last year by re-purposing and regifting.  Some things that helped me were to admit some things I would never use and sent them to the hygiene bank (lots of food banks have these, now I just drop bits off to the church food bank).  Some things I was able to make into a gift bag.

The very best moisturiser for my winter itchy skin turned out to be heel cream and a serum that had the dropper broken on it and that taught me that stuff is multipurpose regardless of the label!

I have a very beautiful to me wool blanket but it was very scratchy so I washed it in the machine with a bit of vinegar and then popped it in the bath and slathered it with lots of hair condition.  It is not that soft now but it is better. I have that on my bed now.

I've sold a few things (Vinted worked well for me).

Then I made a gathering of stuff by the sink that I would use up and started to use products that I had long forgotten like serums and so on.  I had fallen into the habit of buying to replace what I was using and liking so I selected something from the stash and used that instead.

Finally I had/have a lot of bubble baths and shampoos so I have a small pump bottles (charity shop finds) and fill them with bubble bath and shampoos as they run out.

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

  • Welcome @ShyAndRetiring!  Repurposing is a great way to use up items you're not keen on or want to finish quicker- I've been doing that with a lot of toners and serums technically past their use-by- they're totally fine and ok to use on my body for nice soft skin!  If I have anything unopened or very lightly used, that I know I will not finish and don't want to chuck away, I take it into my office and leave it out for people to help themselves- it's usually gone by lunchtime!

I'm not having the best month for UUs (hardly had any!!), and have had a lot of INS so far.  Many were gifts so mostly not my money spent (blimey, I just checked- not since Feb 2022 have I spent so little on toiletries!), but still, so far 17 INS and only 9 OUTS so my stash isn't exactly diminishing so far in 2024!.  And I have a few more INS to report actually  :#

    • Mad About Skin- Protect & Hydrate Sunscreen SPF50 PA++++ 100ml: current one of these is running low, so it's a replacement purchase.
    • The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density 30ml: To replace my Umberto Giannini Grow Tonic, which I think should be finished in Feb, so a slightly early replacement, however I have double Boots points for my birthday month so it made more sense to get it now as it won't be long till its done.
    • Revolution Hydrate & Fix Fixing Spray 100ml: Current one is on the dregs, so this is a replacement
    • L'Oreal Paris Infallible More Than Concealer - in Bisque: I hadn't realised my current one was basically all window until this week, so I ordered this replacement.  Note to self- just notice the 6M period after opening logo on the label- SIX MONTHS!?  Who can use a whole concealer in 6 months!?  Eeek.  Perhaps if I skipped foundation and used more concealer....  Oh well, my current one hasn't killed me yet..... and it is OLD.  :D
    • Essie nail polish in Pencil Me In: Used more birthday money for this pink shade (cream finish), as I wanted a bright pink for spring/summer- it's a shade I do not have at all in my collection- I have zero pinks, so this will be my one and only.

  • Thank you for the welcome @Watty1 and @Clutterbug07 and for the reassurance that repurposing is the way forwards! Useful tips already, thank you.

In the bathroom I do have a refillable glass pump bottle which I’ve been thinking about emptying travel sized shower gels into - I’ve had lots of these as gifts but never really go far, so once the pump bottle is finished, I might do that - that’ll UU quite a few at once. Hopefully the scents will be compatible  :D

I also like the idea of passing on at the food bank, thank you for that! SaR x

Out - 1 UU- L'Occitane Verviene Shower Gel.  I like this but as it is expensive I will not buy again.   I got a bargain a few years ago in a charity shop.  I found L'Occitane washbag with a lot of products in -the whole lot cost me £2.50.    I have got plenty of others shower gels in stock to use up.
